Broken side-stand

Out for a ride just over a week ago...

I had pulled into a parking space nose-first, so needed to move it before riding off. Fortunately, this meant I was off the bike, as when I went to put it back on the side-stand the bloody thing snapped off. I was able to catch the weight of the bike and pop it onto the centre-stand, so no harm done. The mate I was with got me a few cable ties from a nearby Kwik Fit, and after securing the side-stand I was able to get home.

The weld holding the side stand to the frame had snapped, so the frame has to be replaced. BMW Battersea have been pretty decent. Fortunately the bike was still under warranty, so I am not paying for the repair. Annoyingly, I had noticed that the side-stand weld looked a bit crap and asked them to check it when the bike was serviced 9 months ago, but they said it was fine.

New frame was due in today, going to be fitted on Thursday. I have an R1200ST until I get my GS back.

Frame replacement

I haven't had a problem with my sidestand, luckily, but I will have to have my frame replaced at some point. I'd be interested to know how well Battersea tackle the job - looks like quite long-winded job to me.

I had my rear frame replaced and yes it is long winded and expect the unexpected delays for nylon bushes and such like the dealer has not realised they need to replace the frame.

I know that the frame in this area has been redesigned on the new ADV and I think latest 1200's - mostly though for the centre stand as far as I can recall - looking at it there is a new 'cast' piece on the frame? does your bike have the new centre stand?

The new side stands are not long enough as the bike leans over too far. built mine up about 1/1/2 inches.
Also they angle back too far and it's very easy to drop the bike with just a little forward movement, would never park it on the sidestand without it being in gear.
