Hi guys,

This morning I found out that someone thought about stealing my left hand side vario case and broke the support holding it, as you can see on the picture there:

Do you guys know what's the name of that part??

I'm trying to locate it on ebay and others without success...

Thanks!

Hello again dear UKGSers!!

I am now trying to find way to fix the pannier itself, the first plastic "clip" or "nail" has been snapped as we can see on the pic, and I was wondering if there is any advice on how to get that replaced...?
The plastic bit has been lost unfortunately so I can't glue it back.

Have you heard of someone replacing this with a metal equivalent? I am thinking about rebuilding it in Inox or something similar and then riveted in a sandwich-manner, but if you know of anyone who has managed to do it before it would be really helpful!!

Thanks again :)

I've got a spare, just can't remember which side it fits. I'll be home Saturday and can check. I only needed one side but ended up buying a pair. I do remember thinking the item was not repairable, though if it's only the mount for the locking boss yours is still useable though not lockable.

Thanks a lot Greenman14!
Unfortunately I have just moved to Spain so the bike is there with me - no worries for the part we are going to try and get the whole set rebuilt: first the pannier, rebuilding a metal bit and then the grey plastic support with a home-made ring of some sort - and then I'll post some pics (if successful...!). If doesn't work then I'll buy the whole set again... or maybe ditch the whole lot and go for the whole metallic adventure kit.

The Varios might be plastic but mine have twice saved my bike from serious damage, the worst being a 50mph slide that would have wrecked the exhaust and possibly bent the rear subframe.

I totally agree! They actually saved y left leg when I went down due to a truck doing a U-turn without looking... :rocketwho

A 100mm wide exhaust can sitting parallel to the tyre allows enough space for two full size adventure cases. All it needs is a new link pipe and bracket.

Sent somehow.

Hi,

I'm looking for the right hand side vario foot peg rest for an LC. Incidentally, if that happens to be the spare, and that horudis82 is not interested, I would be! (I can't see the pic - presumably it's for an LC?)

Cheers,

Tony

Ah no worries. Presumably TC is the air/oil cooled version ? Just noticed I was in the hexhead session.

Thanks anyway :)

Hi guys!
Just to add a bit to the broken support: here is the temporary fix we found; superglue + bicarbonate and a larger washer :)

Let's see how long it lasts.

Next: the pannier itself! This one will take longer...

Having temporarily misplaced my topbox due to it jumping ship from the exersions of climbing out of one of our more challenging potholes, I would recommend replacing anything that is broken or cracked.
Pannier mounts are under a lot more stress than the part that failed on me.

Sorry to be a kill joy and I really fancy having a go with bicarb and the old cyanoacrilate, but you'll kick yourself when it lets go
