OK, I know it's one of those questions that can have a hundred different answers, but.......

Excluding ferry fares from Pompey to Northern Spain and the crossing to Morocco, how much cash would you say is a sensible budget for 2 weeks actually in Morocco?

Let's say overnighting in lower-cost hotels, riding a reasonable distance each day and money for food, beer, paperwork and bribes etc.
I don't even know where to start when it comes to budgeting for something like this.

Any help appreciated!

Good budget hotels 150-180dirhams a night including breakfast. You can get much cheaper. Petrol around 11dirhams a litre in the north 7.8dirhams a litre in the deep south (S of Tan Tan - it's subsidised). You can get soup, chicken /brochette/fish and chips and bread for less than 30 dirhams if you go to a local cafe. Just go where all the local people are going.

Ferries from Algeceiras to Tanger/Ceuta. Unless you know exactly what time you are getting the ferry back its worth thinking about buying single, not return tickets. Tickets are not transferable. I had to wait 2 hours when I could have been on one in 20 mins.

Morocco won't break the bank.

I averaged about £35 a day for a room, food, beer and fuel over 10 days in October.

.

get a return, if you arrive at the port on your return and your ferry is a later crossing, get the next ferry across - You can then get a refund on the return part of a ferry ticket if it isn't used, take it back to the booking office where you bought it from. Not many people know this :thumb2:thumb

i had to read this sentence about 5 times and i'm still not sure what it means. either i'm stupid, or it's a bit opaque :augie

I think he means that if you have a return ticket and arrive at the port for your return journey too early, buy a single ticket, get on the next ship and then when you arrive at the other side, get the remainder of your original return ticket refunded.

Other than at Dover/Calais where you just get on the next available ship.

Buy a return crossing from algerciras to ceuta ( it's a bit cheaper than a single).

There are several different ferry companies who do the crossing, spaced out over several hours.
So if your booked with a company that has just sailed as you arrive for your return crossing your in for a wait of a few hours.

So buy a single for the next available crossing, and on landing in algerciras take the unsed return ticket to the booking office you bought it from and they'll refund you the return cost.
If you bought your ticket from one of the many "cabins" leading to the port you can't do this, another reason why you should only purchase a ticket from a booking office in the port terminal.

I'll know the next time then!
