Hello folks. This might seem like a bit of an odd request, as I guess many people who have swapped their standard OE factory seats will have gone for something 'fancy' from the likes of Sargent (sadly, I am not in that financial league ), but can anyone please recommend a decent comfortable from any of the cheaper manufacturers? The reason I ask is that I am someone of what I would call average height (I am about 5' 11") and last year I bought a second-hand 2016 R1200GS Triple Black this is a factory low model. You might wonder why, but every time I had considered buying a GS before the sheer size / height of the thing had always put me off, so when I went to look at this one and I didn't feel like I needed a stepladder to get on and off the thing I decided to buy it (without even going for a test ride!). It's good to be impulsive sometimes, and I don't for one moment regret my purchase - having never ridden a GS before, I can now see why they sell so many of them. (y):)
So, I did a couple of longer trips on the bike last year, and thoroughly enjoyed my time on the bike. I did wonder if maybe just an inch or two more seat height might make the bike more comfortable for me on a longer run though (my bike has the low seat option as well as lower suspension). I would like to buy a new seat for it, if only as an alterative option, but I don't really want to have to spend c. £500 on one. I have done a bit of Googling, and there are a number of options available around or under £200 from the likes of Motea and several eBay sellers, so I just wanted to know / hoped to find out whether anyone has any first-hand (or bum) experience of any of these cheap(er) offerings. Thanks in advance.

There's a bloke called Tony Archer in Huddersfield does seats, used to work from a small unit but now from home I believe, does seat alterations covers etc

I have recently purchased a used pair of Sargent seats at the standard height.
They will be advertised on here shortly. As I have purchased a new heated set.

Also have a pair of BMW standard height heated seats that will also be listed for sale.

If you pay your Subs you could possibly buy them.

You are the same height as me. With similar low chassis bikes.

You don't specify if your bike has a low seat (in addition to the low chassis). I believe the low chassis bikes came with "low" seats.

I also have a low chassis bike but I have a standard seat on it. With the seat set to the higher position, the seat height is about 840mm (flat foot-able for me at 5' 11" with 32" leg) but crucially, the seat to peg distance is all-day comfortable.

You should be able to get a used standard seat from here or eBay for less than £200.

According to the first post. It is a low Seat.

Ps. Just listed a pair of standard height heated seats here.

Oops. Did not read it well enough…

Anyway, it validates my point. Putting a standard seat (or even a high seat) from BMW on the bike will provide the required additional legroom without breaking the bank.

Thank you all. I will have a look through the for sale section of this site, and see if I can find something suitable.

About a year ago I purchased Wunderlich seat (rider part only without pillion). I paid 440 euros for it plus postage.
My problem was rear bones pain on longer rides so new seat solved that problem. Before, I could ride for an hour and then had to make a break for at least 10 minutes. With Wunderlich seat I can ride for 3 hours before needing to make a break. So, for me it was a win.
Next month, my bike will be traded in for a new bike (non-BMW) so if you're interested, I could sell you my seat that would cost you less then £200 for the seat and the postage. If you're interested, check if 1250 and 1200 GS use the same seat as mine is for 2021 R1250GS (standard height) and then contact me by PM so we can arrange something.

If Tony is still doing seats, he's the chap to go to. £200 spent with him will better anything you can buy online. I had one of his seats on my 1150GSA - comfy as anything and (the crucial bit) slimmer. It's the width that makes height a problem - a narrower seat means less angle on the hips and you can get your foot down much much easier. I thought he had given up, but if not I'll be getting my new GS seat done SAP!

Thankyou bosnjo; I will do some research and come back to you. :)

Hello again. Just to say that, assuming your seat is in good condition and that it is standard height (any chance of some photos please, to see the condition?) then I am definitely interested - I just can't seem to work-out how to message you directly at the moment. If you know how to do this (such that I can reply to you), can you please PM / DM me? Thankyou. :)

I looked and I see I can't send PM as well. After a bit of search, I found out that only paying member can use PM service.
