Chaps and Chapesses, Help...
My gear box seemed to have given up thre ghost, and can any body tell me the best thing to do. The symptoms are
1) Earlier this week (about 500 miles ago) the change between 5th and Eth became stiffer.
2) Then all the changes became stiffer than a dead viagra addict with rigger mortis.
3) Two days ago the box was stuck in fourth for about five minutes. Press the gear lever down, nothing. Pull it up and nothing. There was still a slight springyness to the lever and it always returned to normal position.
4) Today, it was jumping out of Eth and not allowing me to change to 5th. Then it would not engage in to fifth whilst going crunch.
5) There is a rattley sound until I pulled the clutch in at tick over and it slowly dies away.
6) There is an oil leak some where all over the collector box.
I am hoping (rather vainly no doubt) that topping the box up with oil will help. I'm at work, 75 miles from home and its Friday. I have the basic tool kit, AA membership and a bottle of gear box oil.
Does any one have any suggestions please.
