In my experience, I have never been rewarded for my loyality to the brand or in particular, the dealership. There is never any scope for discounts which I have previously received elsewhere when spending far less money.

Needless to say, having clocked up just under 9000 miles in 9 months, corrosion has become an issue (engine bars, callipers, exhaust). All this despite the religous application of scot oiler and a fanatical cleaning regime. Is it just me or does anyone else actually enjoy cleaning their bike???

I was offered 15% on any clothing when I got my Adventure, but as they did not have what I wanted in my size I stuck with my Spidi instead, otherwise they did nothing, not even a keyring.

It is fair to say I managed to do a deal where they threw the alloy panniers in FOC with the purchace and apparently this is highly unusual.

Cleaning? Nah! Maybe a few times a year and yes it has corroded in some areas, (17 months old) TBH I wish I had done something to protect the engine cases as the black is flaking off and it looks awful but apart from a few rusty fixings and some bubbling around the front fork brace it is quite good.

Yeah! :) Lets get new Husabergs with cases that disolve during the winter, and engines that will blow regardless of if you give them a service every 100 miles or not - I can get good deals on them and they sure are a hell of a lot of fun once you get them started....

The deal with the BM was they threw the panniers in and I registered and collected it on the 29th January last year, no panniers if I waited until the new registrations. This was not a pikey thing (well ok maybe slightly!) This was more a "I want it now" thing as we were due to go to Nordkapp later that year.

Sadly my wife broke her leg very badly just 4 days after I picked the bike up and had a full length plaster for a few moths (not bike related) So that trip never actually happened and the bike was only used in anger for the first time last October when we went to DK.

She had just got used to 1,000 kms a day again when 'we' broke her other leg a couple of weeks ago. :nenau

Regarding issues of corrosion - So called adventure bike.

In my above response to this corrosive thread i got the following outcome from bmw ( rainbow at Rotherham).
After booking my bike in for an inspection into some warranty work on corrosion (having done a trip of a few thousand miles to morocco thro france n spain in snow before sunny maroc and havin returned to see piss poor feckin rust) i had a sensible discussion with steve at rainbow.Firstly and i find this weird they agreed to do minor replacements under warranty ie mirrors rusty f, ork brace corroded ,oil leak ,warped discs ,these discs being new BEFORE FECKIN TRIP! but they declined to renew/repair fuel tank which has a massive rosette of rust just where it mounts the bikes subframe on both sides, only seen if you look up from near front wheel!! They said they based this decision on poor cleanliness and the fact that thier known fault database does not include this as a known fault and thierfore when they send the parts off to bmw central they (rainbow )will recieve an invoice for said parts and will not be reimbursed .My attitude to this is amazement, i love this bike but iam fecked if i am gonna remove the fuel tank etc etc every time i wash this thing ,so am taking it as far as poss on principle and am gonna spoil my manners, after only 11,000miles i am sick of wiping the ass of this fu&cking bike an all these so called hardcore that think we whinge on moan about our £10k ultimate drivin machine can go and F@ck em selves an ill say it to thier SMUG F@UCKIN faces.....

I think what Steve was trying to get across to you is the following which if i remember right is the same for all dealers.
All warranty issues are intially dealt with by the dealers and they have to assess wether it falls within BMW's warranty guide lines or not.
Don't forget that certain issues can be down to ownership but yet people assume these will be covered under warranty.
The intial cost of the parts are bourne by the dealer as he buys them off BMW in the 1st place (we're not just given them) After the repair he then invoices BMW for the repair -labour & parts and after a few weeks he will be paid. The parts are sent back to be examined by the warranty dept. If in their opinion the defects are not warranty ie manufacturing defect then the parts are returned to the dealer in question and payments for the work are taken back by BMW.Result dealer out of pocket.Something the car side may be able to cope with to a degree given the profits etc but certainly not the motorcycle side.
Part of the problems of your tank issue may have been with the previous owner of your bike not everyone maybe as dillegent with they're bike cleaning regime as yourself.
These scenarios are the same right across the motor trade so its not just BMW

Don't worry Guys. 2008, new Honda Big Trailie due. Kiss your BMW woes goodbye and vote with your wallet!

This brake disc warping concerns me. I had my discs replaced under warranty due to warping a few thousand miles ago, and yet again these replacements have now warped! A friend of mine with a 12 has also just had his replaced for the same problem!

I think BM seriously need to think about changing their supplier.

Does anyone know who supplies them with the discs, the shite quality echoes EBC?

I don't think the launch of a new Honda will change matters, the newer Jap bikes are built like shit too, most of them being built in Europe, with exception to Yam, which to my knowledge are the only one's still built entirely in Japan?

REEEsult.

Well i have to post the final chapter in this story of my bikes warranty issues.

After speaking to steve at Rainbow (service manager) bout the issues of corrosion , mirrors etc as mentioned before he was adamant that the underneath of my fuel tank wasnt covered by corrosion for the previously mentioned reason (see last post above). All other work was then arranged to be done under warranty, mirrors ,gearbox oil leak ,fork brace ,aux power output faulty. On the way back to Rainbow i was held up so was late picking up my bike and at the door was Sean the big boss.Sean was just making polite conversation and asked if all was ok with my Gs and asked if they had just serviced it .I mentioned the warranty work and i said it was a shame things like tanks wasnt covered .At this Sean stepped outside took a quick look at the fuel tank and said "steve order this lad a new fuel tank under warranty on my authorisation" i was gobsmacked to say the least at this approach to costomer relations ,sean was only too happy to oblige - never known anything like it , felt a bit embarrassed for steve tho. The ownership and pleasure as well as the practical side of owning a bike like this , coupled with my dealers (Rainbows) attitude have far outshone the gripes i have mentioned in previous posts but BMW need to get thier shit together.By the way i will be thanking Sean at Rainbow via post and also corresponding to bmw uk to commend Rainbow (specifically Sean)....morocco again in October....

The trick is to neutralise the salt, I agree with cold water washes and use something to neutralise road salt and acids.
There are lots of products available WD40 GT85 ACF50 Duckoil, Baby Oil even however the one that works for me is Scottoiler FS365
As some have already said it's good stuff, and I agree 100%
If you use nothing else :shout get this and use it it's brilliant
