building a shed!

Any builders on here? I need advice, Been quoted for a shed by a friend of a friend, details are as follows: 14foot by 10foot, cavity block, one window (3' square), double doors (6' 6), single skin non-drip roof cladding, gutters etc. Building off an existing back wall, floor already in place, so no need for foundations. will be plastered, along with an another wall (7 foot high 16 foot long) he's a tidy builder so i know it will be right. price 3250 for the lot.

Is this about right? I know Fu*k all about building shed (never built anything bigger than a dog run!) but would welcome ur thoughts!

He's supplying everything. Doors windows roof blocks sand cement etc. And I know he's very tidy worker.

my two cents

I had my shed built by C&S sheds.. http://candssheds.ie/
the lads arrived down on site, completed in 2 hours..
the shed is 30ft by 20 foot.. condensation membrane fitted and all..
lots of light because of the clear sections in the roof..

mine was 4,000 euro installed.

my other mate here in cork got the smaller size
which is 15foot by 20 foot
his was €2,000 euro (almost 100% sure cause its half the size and price)
same deal as mine they came down and installed on site

the shed is grass green on the outside and is still perfect 5 years later

I got a 12ft / 12ft built for £1100, i put in a concrete floor and left it raised above the ground 4 inches and he built the shed to suit and over lapped the sides to stop water getting in .It is made of 12mm wood , 2 windows ,1 large door ,proper felt roof which it stuck on . I know he builds stuff all over Ireland and will build any size and spec you want

if can, try got for 6inch blocks not cavity.

i have found in past cavity are nto very good at insulating and are weak at the middle where easy drive a hammer.

6in heavier but make a much more solid wall.

also if wanted be extra warm fit some insulated plaster board to the walls its very good but not cheap.

i think thats not a bad price for some one do all the work for you but it aint a bargin either

If it was me, I'd go for the pre fab steel shed. Quicker cheaper and cleaner. Also if you ever move house you could dismantle it again and take it with you.

Thanks for ur thoughts, think a steel pre fab shed is out, as my back garden is on a slope and the base that I have already has a fall of about 4 inches. Don't want it looking like its about to skid away,don't want a step up and don't want to re do the base. As no one came back saying holy shit are u mad i'm thinking its an ok price for everything?

I'd be very careful about building a block wall, which probably will be carrying the weight of the roof as well, off a concrete slab which may not have been designed to do that (there are reasons for foundations). Also, if you want a dry shed there should be a damp proof membrane in the floor, which joins up with the damp course in the wall - this will help prevent any timber fittings from rotting, your bike too, maybe . Btw, how is the single skin roof made to be 'non-drip'?

I had the same concerns, but the builder said I could build a tower on it. Its 12 inches deep, I had it poured by the builder of the estate before the house was finished. As for the roof, its got a backing attached, almost felt like, brother has it in his bird shed and said its de job.
