Hewn from Bavarian granite I think you'll find. They are horrible old nails but they certainly last - I doubt they'll be many original WC's around in 2048!!!!!!
My GS 80 Kalahari is set up beautifully and with a good quality white power rear shock is by far the best handling bike I own, its flickable , smooth, nice torque, and plenty fast enough. Of course it doesn't have all the modern gizmos but that's all the more charming and reliable for it.
The LC will be on its third reincarnation as a fridge by 2048.
If you rode a good one you'd be surprised and probably charmed by there level of analogue capabilities.
My mate once called the old air cooled Porsche 911 a bag of shit, he didn't realise that his findings were based only on the fact that his one previous drive in one was poor because the car was poor.
His view has now changed having driven a nice one.
I think its better without it, for crap going over the bike / back of your legs. As for muck over the rear, i made a number plate bracket at a much steeper angle, so the number plate now catches 90% of muck flung up.

Monos are horrible things.
Paralevers a re better and at least have a 1000cc option instead of the dreadful 800cc - still shite though. They were overpriced when they were £1500. now its just taking the piss

Mmm, not strictly true, the R65GS is a monolever and was made until 1992 - and as a further confusion was designated as GS not g/s
