. . . BUT the wrong assumption that you assumed that Engineer assumed would advocate the use of 4 foot bungees and would mean that the bags were held on sideways instead of back-to front bungees, the most OBVIOUS way to strap things to a bike to cope with acceleration and braking forces :idea

It would also mean, as previously stated, that the boxes would be "Lifted" by the bungees if one box to another straps were used and that wouldn't be clever would it? :doh

Which leaves the most probable way of fixing as my original method and not the assumption assumed by Engineer or your assumption that Engineer assumed correctly, you dig? :coold :beerjug:

Your method was not clearly stated - hence the necessity for assumptions and subsequent questions in order to fully understand your requirements. :-)

P.S. I have recently purchased some 'AndyStrapz' and use these to attach items laying across the rear seat and panniers - they can be fitted in a manner of different styles and seem to be very secure (so far).

think they sell these in Hein Gericke in the UK as well, fold flat so might be what your after, think they'd go well if you could mount em in the same place SQD8R has his.

The ones in Hein Gerick are black plastic and don't look very strong. I looked at them the other day, if they had been metal I would have tried them.

never mind, I'll have a look over here and if there metal and you want em I'm sure I could send some over if you wanna try em.

(this is my first post with pictures, I hope it works...)

It is not directly related to the original question, but here's what I've done:

I find the provided slots in the tail section difficult to use, especially when the panniers are fitted - the hooks on the bungees won't fit. I bought 4 shackles and 4 'loops' (not sure what these are called) from a boating shop:

I push the shackle through the slot from underneath and then attach the loops. I then hook or thread the bungees through the loop:

It takes about a minute to install or remove these.
