Having just returned from a most enjoyable fortnight in Devon and Cornwall, Mrs T and I were discussing how we could improve similar jaunts in future.
Our accommodation was our trusty VW campervan, with a (driveaway) awning. Once camp was 'set up' we tended to walk or get the bus to destinations of interest, however at times and particularly in deepest, darkest Cornwall where we were staying, this was not always ideal (or even possible).
For example, a journey of 12 miles to get to the Eden Project from our campsite involved a 30 min brisk walk to the bus stop to catch bus1 to nearest big town, from where bus2 would take us to Eden project. 2hrs 20 all in. Noting that we'd need to leave the Eden project on bus2 mid-afternoon for the return journey early enough to ensure we made last 'bus1' home which departed at 4pm.
This has lead to some discussion about whether either a pair of e-bikes, or possibly a scooter (my preference) would be a sensible purchase.
Scooter requirements would be to handle relatively short (for argument's sake sub 20mile/45min) journeys, 2-up on A and B roads with sufficient space to store bike gear whilst at destination (underseat plus decent topbox should do it), or for me to pop to the local supermarket to top up supplies without having to detach van from awning, which although do-able is a bit of a faff.
I'm thinking 300-400cc would be plenty (Forza 300/350, burgman 400, xmax300 etc), possibly even too much, but I suspect a 125 isn't going to be enough even though I don't envisage a need to be cruising at 70mph 2-up. Research over the weekend shows there was a Burgman 200 which may fulfil 90% of our needs 90% of the time.... Anyone on here with any experience of said Burgman variant?
TIA,
Dave.
