Logrono is a good alternative to Burgos and only 3 hours from Santander. Great tapas bars and restaurants

Stopped here for 5 nights just before covid. Nice hotel, a few minutes walk into the walled town

if you go in from the south of the Arlazon River there are no cobbled streets

I slept on a petrol station forecourt in Burgos once, secure for the bike, as I was under it. Fresh coffee in the morning and toilets.

Stayed in the Lerma Paradore some years ago. Very nice, and has the best ‘view from your hotel room’

Plus from me for Lerma. Nice walks around town to a few caffe/bars

We tend to use the Paradors, so Lerma, Sto Domingo de la Calzada or Cervera de Pisuerga , which all have secure garage parking. These leave you with a pleasant bimble back to the port.

If you prefer a short final day, or want to spend some time sampling the delights of Santander, then look at Limpias or Santillana del Mar.
