Hi

I might be going to Germany in a few months for a long weekend and was thinking about taking the bike and buying some panniers helmet etc over there has anyone done this before?
Is it really that much cheaper?
Is there any pitfalls I should look out for?
Whats the winning lottery numbers?

Buying In Germany

Well living in Germany I can say that i cant see any pitfalls in buying helmets etc. As for cost I think that it is more than likely round about the same cost here as in Uk for most things (unless your entitled to tax free that is :D )

I often look on the net for things in Uk because its expensive here but never really find any difference.

Well, the Schuberth C2's are around Canadian $350 cheaper there than here in Canada... That is after shipping and taxes...

Go with a bare bike. Return with a full panniers.

Do you know where abouts in Germany you'll be going? Even though i will be out of Germany for a while(Somewhere hot and sandy unfortunately) If you know what you are after maybe someone on this site from over here can get you a price from their local dealer????? Worth a shot i suppose, or my missus says she'll do it for you when i'm away. (look into prices that is) phnar phnar.
Just give me or her a shout. :thumb

I work a great deal in Germany and have found many items to be cheaper; clothing, accessories and servicing! I have bought various GS extras direct from Wunderlich which are definitely cheaper than through the UK supplier. Average Germans are not as affluent as they used to be and I have found many bargains to be had if you shop around (not just bike related gear). Your best bet is to arm yourself with a wish list with a note of the best UK prices and see what you can find.... :bounce1

Thanks

Thanks for your advice

I think it would be best for me to get a list of goodies and prices from the UK then if the plan comes together and I end up going (time off work permitting) it’s off to the Nuremberg ring

Germany

Hey,

as a german I often look for UK-parts in the net. The "only" things, that are "cheaper" here than in the UK are the things you buy direct from Wuedo, Touratech, Fallert, Wunderlich etc.. And the tax.....

Other parts with the same quality I often buy in the UK. Sometimes they are cheaper there.

Have fun in my country!!!

I bought (after some discussion with the Germans) my TT tank bag and cover from Germany and had it delivered to a German address as I didn;t want to wait for TT UK to get one (no estimate given for delivery time) and then add a tenner or more on top.

Luckily, my wife works for a big truck company and her German agent sent it on free from Germany to save the postage as well.

Plus as a fat bloke, I find Gericke caters more for me than the UK shops... although UK has the sizes int he catalogue, getitng fat-b@stard stuff does seem like one of the trials of Greek mythology!

Thanks

That could have easily been "Its around here somewhere" moment:mmmm
