Buying a bike in Columbia

Has anyone any experience of buying a bike in Columbia or Uruguay/argentina?

I was going to ship my bike over for 3 months, then someone suggested buying and then selling, which I believed you could not do a few years ago but seems to be okay to do in SA these days. I would also not want to have to do a round trip given the amount of time I would have to do the 10-12k miles cheers

You might want to spell it Colombia.

Columbia is a sportswear company, a university in New York and several other things, but not a country in South America.
