Ive got a Dell Laptop, it cost £800 around 3 yrs ago and its still good as new. Prices have come down a lot since so its probably on par with a current £500 model. I would definately get another when replacement time comes up.

Ive also used Novatech a lot and use them for my desktop upgrades, again quality components used inside the systems.

Thing is I havent had to used after sales service with either which I suppose cant be a bad thing.

I would be happy with either but you will get more for your money with a Novatech. Im sure you pay more for the name with Dell.

Cheers :thumb2

Go....

and have a look at PC World, they do Toshiba, Acer, Advent, Dell (Nice Pink one for £379) etc. You don't have to buy from them but it gives you a chance to have a good look and get hands on.

All the laptops I own 3 of them, 2 Advent and 1 Toshiba, all 17" wide screen came from PC World, the Tosh travels on my bike in all weathers and has never failed me, shouldn't have said that, tomorrow when I go off to work it will.....:D

PS. Don't take any notice of the sales guys, most of them have no idea and if you do buy from them don't pay all the extra crap they offer....

PC World - forget it

Their headline prices look good, but they really wound me up when I went into their Milton Keynes shop, trying to sell me broadband and s/w & maintenance contracts etc, even though I said at the start I didn't want anything other than the laptop, so I just walked out.

Went to John Lewis & bought one - probably not the cheapest or biggest choice, but so nice to buy from, including after-sales, I was happy to pay.

Good advice, I did exactly that and then bought from the internet.

Just make sure that the one you are buying is the one you've seen as a couple of numbers in the code name of the laptop can make a big difference.

I bought a really great Toshiba for the wife and it came with a really high spec :thumb2

I've jsut bought an Acer Aspire 5532 from Tesco's - spesh offer with £100 off at £359 and double clubcard points:D

3gb RAM and 250gb HD, Windows 7s, 15.6" screen.

Had a quick look in Currys and did like the look of the Dell Inspiron 1545 T4400 for £449 look on Dells Web site but could,nt find it.
Is this model solely sold by currys or is it old Dell stock/model:nenau
thanks again Ian

I’ve bought a few Dell laptops here. They tend to take them back from the likes of Currys/ Tesco and have full warranty etc. worth a look, quick turnaround and it saves you a few quid.

I've experienced Novatech after sales and they were extremely helpful.

Another vote for Ebuyer, if you want a screen bigger than 15.6" you'll have to pay a little extra, you could do a lot worse than this one which has an LED screen as opposed to LCD, it is 16quid above your budget though.

Hi

I have bought laptops for my wife and both children and chose reconditioned IBM laptops from Tier1 online - high build quality and will last a very long time. You save a lot of money buying used.

If you are buying new I am another vote for ebuyer.co.uk. I use them a lot although the courier company they use are a pain.

Steve
