will the us version of a marine gps work here in ireland with the bluechart card installed
buying a marine gps in us

I guess ...
... a GPS is just a gps and will work out where it is wherever you are in the world ... but using this location is where the maps come in and certainly for the road based Garmin ones Europe and the US are different products.
It might be worth taking a look on the Garmin site and checking what the Bluecharts cover or trying a marine based forum.
