Buying an Ex offroad schools Bmw f800gs,

when and if you get one check the serial numbers against the paper work:blast

when I got my HP from the school it all got well messy and my HP was in Ireland and I had Irish mateys bike...

Vines sorted it all out but lucky I checked it before riding off into the sunset and having an accident or getting it nicked....

Images of the 800GS at BMW off-road school. 600 miles on the clock (so ridden ragged on the course during its run-in period):

Not surprising if they do this every day of the week:

The tree on the left just appeared out of nowhere :augie

Yeah my only advice on this is not too buy no 18!;)

I think you are mad buying one!

I have done the course and seen what type of abuse the bikes get. They are pretty tough, but all of them were damaged somehow- and most had liquid metal holding some part of them together!!!

I started on one 800, and quickly realised the clutch was knackered and there was no back brake!!!

All the bikes on our course were immaculate. But then they'd only done delivery miles :D

I did the course this year 'round July, on the road ride back on the last day I suddenly realised that while the bike was riding straight, the handle-bars weren't. I'll freely admit to binning it quite a few times on the second day.

I reakon the average F800 from there has well more than 2k's worth of wear and tear.

Having said that I'd be tempted by one of the 650 singles if the price was right.

At the end of the day the bikes are sold as road worthy - so all this talk of no brakes etc etc is not relevant. Yes the bikes may not have been run in as per the book and they have been jet washed everyday and they will be cosmetically damaged, but if you intend to use them off-road then what does it matter?

If you buy any secondhand bike you have no idea if it has been run in properly or if it has been jet washed regularly.

I agree. You pay your money & make your choice. :rob

At least you know where it's been.:augie

(Down all the hills in wales on it's side)

True, and will probably never been involved in an high-speed tarmac off that has put the frame out of true and just been cosmetically repaired.

Just been down there today and seen the bikes, they must have repaired them in Wales,no glue or metal putty holding anything on,lots of new left and right hand shiny black engine covers, even some new front fairing panels, wow, brand new road tyres, seems off road skills removed those, put knoblies on and have now refitted those back, loads of spec on the bikes, abs, grips, computers, need a bit of a clean but all there and not bad for off roading,Morocca etc;etc

If you want a purely off road bike, I would advise going for something lighter and definately non abs -than a f800gs...

A lot cheaper and significantly more capable... espec for sandy piste in Morroco...

Did you buy this from Vines?
No I bought mine from Coopers Tunbridge Wells. I got a really, REALLY good price, and a low seat as well for much less than it should have been. Couldnt do enough for me, and am extremely happy with the bike. had 890 miles ish on it when I got it, now got 2000 miles on it, as well as handguards, and a Touring screen, but youll already know that as you submitted your 2penneth worth in my previous posts regarding Vines in Guildford havent you,:augie. No doubt about it, the best bike I have EVER OWNED and im on bike number 43 as this goes to press, err email, even

Vines seem to have lots of new, low mileage bikes - some of these have been press bikes, some staff bikes etc . Not always easy to know which as they all look in very good condition externally.

I have just bought this one yesterday and riding home it was lovely after the service and the bit's and piece's that Vines had done to it,still looks a bit scabby but all straight and nothing broken,it is soon going to be painted white,£4995 good bargin

Hi all..

First posting here ....

I just bought No.12 - fully serviced by Vines, and with the 18 month balance of the 2 yr BMW warranty, all three bells and whistles and 1800 miles - admittedly hard ones - on the clock.

Found a broken headlamp bracket when I got home, there's a new one in the post to me right now...

Where can you go wrong??

Greg
