Hi
Have been looking at low mileage, up to 15000, gs s. 2008 to 2011.
Noticed there are some good looking 30000 mile ones which i have been disregarding.
What do people think about higher mileage models?
Rick

Seeing as they are bearly run in at 15000 miles I would be more interested in its history. There are many Rs running around with 6 figure mileages. Jjh

Mine has 48000, have had four headlight bulbs, one battery and a slave cylinder, mine looks better than most, you wouldn't know it was 9 years old.

I'd rather buy one that has been used rather than sat in a heated garage!

Take into consideration the mileage equals the number of miles it has worked for.
If no one has ridden it very far ask yourself why.

Your age range takes in single and twin cam versions. The TC is generally thought to be a better bike. Check the back wheel for play in the FD and wheel bearing.

30K really is nowt on the GS boxer engine days of old japs clapping out are long gone too,my 1st had 62K I added another 3K brought another cos it had a good spec with 48K,pity cos it got wrote it off at 52K in June lol was running sweet.

As with any BMW regular oil changes & other simple to do at home servicing these easily do 2-300K before needing major rebuilds, just check service history even if it's a pile of recipts owner done at home

Boxer engines are designed to do 500,000 miles. 30,000 seems pretty insignificant in comparison.

I suspect by the 500k mark your bike will resemble triggers broom, but the engine will still be the same!

I have an 2006 (early 2007 model with abs 2) for sale.

36k miles, masses of history, full luggage, just had a front to back service and shake down including overhauled prop shaft.

From the factory it has ABS, spoked wheels, heated grips and alarm.

And it's dark silver......let me know if it flicks your switch.

800,000kms on a bike..........that I'd like to see!!!

Go to advrider and look up hank, he has over 1/2 million miles on his 1100 gs. And there's a 1200 rt with 400,000. Gold wingings and some Harley's amongst others do 500,000. Google it.

And most have no major engine work ,just service stuff :thumb2

My 2008 GSA had 33k when I bought it and came with all the toys including sat nav. At 50K the FD was rebuilt and brakes now need to be stripped. But it's no big deal and still saved money over a newer bike. I mean less money shelled out so depreciation costs less.
Service costs are not part of the decision because they all need to be serviced.

2009 r1200 gs 18k is now on its way to my little mits.
Bit overpriced from a bmw dealer, but good condition with all the goodies exept cruise control got metal panniers and delivery to highlands included.
