Buzz instead of speech

Help!

I have installed my comms system and have tested the unit out and it works great, except....

When you get voice guidence instructions from the sat nav- a street pilot iii (yes I know it's old) all I hear is a buzz, but no voice .

when i disconect the power to the sat nav, so its running on internal juice, it all works fine?

Is there a special power lead you need?

Everything is fine, music, bike to bike, but this poxy issue with voice on guidence.

Please can someone help me?

This buzz is typical of ground loop effect when running a bike powered device into a bike-powered Autocom. The normal fix for this is an isolated lead. The part number for an isolating lead with a 2.5mm plug for the SPIII and a 3.5mm plug for the main unit is 1567.
You don't tell us what Autocom unit you have and how the other accessories are wired in.
Ring the factory tomorrow morning for the best advice.

seems really dumb of autocom not to have any isolation built in

or you could look at it as really clever... catching you for another £30 after you bought the unit

You will need either our Parts 1293 and 1282/1285 to allow for the correct parts numbers as I am unsure on what part John is quoting there.

As for Tuned In, if we added isolation onto our systems it would make the systems larger in size due to the extra room on the PCB needed to house the parts etc. You have also got to remember that NOT everyone wants to run GPS on their bikes so this why we sell the parts as extras so far from what you have said!

Gentlemen,

I have exactly the same problem only this time with a Starcom Advance.

What little I know of "ground loop" I owe entirely to Wikipedia and Google so not a lot.

I have the Starcom "hardwired" into the rear light supply and the GPS is plugged into the accessory socket, so my question is this:

If I change my Starcom so that it shares the same accessory plug/socket will this eliminate my problem? I didn't want to put the GPS on the rear light as well in case it overloaded the circuit.

What do you think?

I'd say it'll be the same, the problem AFAIK is that there's two seperate circuits, and as long as there is, you'll have a problem unless you use some trickery.

Me too except my Starcom is hard wired direct to the battery and the GPS direct to the front power socket. The GPS works fine on it's own but when I add an ipod (running from it's own internal battery), there is loads of interference with the ipod continually cutting out. If I run the ipod on it's own it is fine. Very frustrating - any clever people out there with a remedy?

I am going to the NEC this weekend (where I bought the Starcom last year) and will have a chat with the guys on the stall as well.

As you know I had this problem, I purchased a cable from Starcom (I was going past St Neots and popped in) £ 25 later - sorted.

This cable came with the original kit (it has a suppressor built in) and is installed already?
