Byway Closures - Hampshire May/June 2012

Hi All,

I know there is a large contingent of this forum that ride around the byways of Hampshire. However, there are a number of lanes that are closed by means of a Traffic Regulation Order (or TRO). When lanes are closed by a TRO - it is illegal to ride down them. The Loddon Vale Trail Riders Fellowship - LVTRF (http://www.lvtrf.co.uk) is trying to pacify the locals and to maintain pressure on the local councils to re-open these lanes as soon as possible since it is well known that TROs often get made Permanent.

If people ride on the lanes that are closed, much to the annoyance of the locals as well as the council then they are more likely to have public weight against us and have them permanently closed - so PLEASE PLEASE don't ride them.

The Loddon Vale website will have a list of current TROs so I do urge you to look at them regularly when planning ride outs. Also, I will try to post up here too. We are actively trying voluntary restraint on many lanes which appears to be working - however, we recently built up a good rapport which has been recently dashed by a large quantity of riders reading the TRO and then promptly ignoring it - pushing down the barrier and riding through it. This is NOT helping our cause and is now making our campaign to keep these lanes open more and more difficult.

Current Lanes in the LVTRF district that are closed for maintenance.

Bentworth - Rushmoor Pond
Bentworth - Jennie Green Lane
Warnborough - N.Warnborough Ford (Permanently closed)
Overton - The Harrow Way (due to be open again soon)

There are others - please keep an eye on our site as well as the Hampshire County Council site for up to date details.

Thanks and enjoy the Bank Holiday
