My mate bought a set of these.
All complete, with the mounting brackets, bolts etc.
Give him a hand yesterday to install them on a 1150GS.
Fitted grand.
But we discover that the key for taking the seat off now won't go in where it should.
Did we do anything wrong???????

(i know i know, he shouldn't have bought them)

Someone's changed either the ignition or seat lock.

If you can get the barrel out of the seat lock, be REALLY careful not to drop any of the brass 'gates'. slide the ignition key in and you'll see that some of the brass gates are proud of the barrel.

File them off

Did he get them for a standard 1150 GS with the two saddles ?? Key goes in in the side just in front of left rear indicator?

They may be for an GSA which has a different seat lock arrangement

I've seen touratech racks with a wee hoop or arch welded in in stead of the straight bar that the adventures get

Why ever not ? They're great boxes - have mine about 7 or 8 years. They're on their third bike & have done over 150,000km. Still going strong

But I'm inclined to think Jay's right about the GSA

Mine's the same were the gap is very tight between the pannier frame and the lock. I just manage to get mine in if I angle the key down with the bmw logo at the bottom it just goes in, if I have the key the other way around the rubber cover on the key won't go past the pannier frame.

The other answer is to use one of the spare keys without the rubber grip on, they fit in much easier or get the grinder out.

Looks like I had a thick moment and just realised your problem as I had the same with them

Cut the end off the spare key that doesn't have a rubber bit. I just leave mine in there.

folding igntion key

you can get a folding ignition key that might solve your problem.

We checked today.
The boxes were made for a GSA.
Spare key is gonna be filed tomorrow.
