There are seven routes - of varying speed/directness - to Millau on the www.ride.co.uk/routes page, with Google Map links and GPX files to download. This bears a striking resemblance to one of them...

Cheers Wapping, thanks for sharing. Shamelessly stolen again by me.

You are probably right.

I did something pretty similar coming from closer to Carcassone to well past Dijon in a day, using pretty similar roads.

I hadn't considered coming down south via via the Morvan, as I usually go a bit further to the east, curving down beneath the area. I am not quite sure why not. I like the Morvan, suitably wild and few English; well worth a day or two just on its own.

I love the Morvan - it's as if the French studied how to make English B-roads and then decided to put it all into practice in one place. The only real choice is whether to stay in Autun or Avallon...

I have stayed in both at some time or another.

For the jaunt I have put together to go to Annecy later in the month, we will be staying in Avallon at the Dak hotel.

I have never stayed there, so we'll find out what it's like. It doesn't have a restaurant but the town has enough to chose from, that's for sure. The good thing about it is that it has enough rooms for us all.

The owner speaks excellent English and / or is happy to muddle through in Franglais, which is more fun.
