Calais to Spain any advice / routes for gps

Hi i am planning a route from calais to the Pryneese ( Lourdes area) next year and wondered if anyone would have any routes down to spain. We will be catching the ferry back to England but would be looking for an interesting route down avoiding too much payage or m ways.I would imagine a two day ride 200 to 300 miles a day)
I have looked at the Michelin maps but as i have not yet done a long trip would be gratefull if anyone could give me idea of good routes as looking at the maps is fine but other peoples experiences would be helpful for me to plan a good route.

I have done the Pryaneese before with mates and caught the ferry down and back but that was a fast hoon ride - this time with the missus so would like the journey down to be memorable)

Looks like you had a great time.
I take it that the ride down was mainly A roads etc - the map source gave travel times along with the routes were these only riding time or included stops as well.
Again thanks for the help , im new to this 'taking the missus out for 10 days on a bike tour so all the info i can get will keep me happy ! (well her)

Turn your GPS off,hide the map,and keep the sea on your right for as long as possible.I done that a few years ago,and discovered all manner of little gems tucked away from the tourists.Brill time

Thanks for the advice but i only have 10 days !!!!!! and would like to see spain (guess the no map route would be around 1100 miles to spanish border)
and would like to carry on down to the pecos.
Good idea if on my own but as i have the wife need to be kinder on milage.

What are your dates next year?......There's some great routes all about the place that can culminate in Lourdes...I'm only 29 kicks from same....

(Having said that if you're coming here for some religious reason fine, but if not,it's a commercial Blackpool type gray dump designed to relieve people of their money ,a terrible place for sure,.....there's better places to find ,IMHO....)


I know the whole area so if you need info by all means post and I'll see what I can do

Have not yet set any date but think it would be aroud the July/August time.
All depends on work schedual.

I would be happy to help with route planning down to the Pyrenees we are based in the Correze which is where the roads start to get interesting about 2/3's of the way down france the gateway to the Massif Central and I have upto date experience of the roads from Limoges South

calais to spain

i went to the pyrenees last year from calais,i got a route from the daily telegraph which enabled me to get to foix without paying any tolls, basically i turned right at calais heading for rouen over the river and you pick up the old route nationale,i stopprd my 1st night in chartres,then down the route nationale[ they are not motorways,but duel carriageways] so toll free,it used to be called rn100 but now its the n154 to orleans then the n20 to vierzon,n144 to clermont ferrand,n89 to brieve,n20 to montauban,keep on n20 to toulouse then foix,n117 to lourdes,all toll free,its a fantastic route very scenic i can recomend it,

Why go via Calais? Any other channel port would be closer and it's not as if you'll miss any great roads in the Pas de Calais.
