Hi,
Just started using Calimoto. Planning routes for upcoming trip. Experimenting and getting used to the software.
Calimoto is good and easy to use. Using in iOS on MacBook to set up routes. Syncs with the Calimoto phone app.
Would prefer to use my BMW Nav V on the bike rather than my phone on a mount. Graphics better on Nav V rather than just a turn by turn instruction on the phone in Calimoto app. Although the latter would be doable.

Downloaded my planned and saved route from Calimoto to my iOS MacBook files. As GPX file. Ready to transfer to Nav V.
To be able to open GPX file in iOS and see route had to download “GPX Review” from App Store. Just shows route on a map when you open the file.
(Thought I might be able to open the GPX file using BaseCamp as this is Garmin and compatible with Nav V. I no longer have BaseCamp. BaseCamp finished and no longer supported. I believe?)

Plugged in Nav V to computer. Opened GPS in Nav V (on MacBook). Dragged and dropped the file from computer to Nav V. Done.
Although the route does import to the Nav V, it splits it into several shorter routes.
Quote on Nav V screen - “Has more than 29 via points. Route was split into 14 trips”. So 14 separate routes appear in trip planner on Nav V. Not ideal as you would need to open each section in the correct order as the route progressed? The sections are not in chronological order on the trip planner.
For this route I only entered a start and finish point in Calimoto. Nav V seems to add in several via points when you import. Hence the message on Nav V.
Or, is it “GPX Review” that adds in the points first before importing to Nav V ? Don’t know.
If you enter a simple start and finish directly in Nav V it does not slit it up. Just plots the route.
Does anyone know why the imported Calimoto route gets split into several shorter routes?
Can this be overcome? Is that just the way it is?
Want to set up several round trips and routes on Calimoto and import to Nav V without Nav V splitting routes into several short stretches.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you
Archie

Yes, calimoto is creating all waypoints as via points. Garmin navs can only handle 29 via points per route and 125 shaping between via points so the routes are being split.

Answers my question. Much appreciated.
My biking buddy has ZumoXT and will use MyRoute to plan routes.
Take it he will experience the same when downloading to ZumoXT?

No, MyRoute app can create Garmin friendly routes on Here mapping which Garmin devices use. I have a Zumo XT myself and MyRoute app works very well with it. You might get Calimoto to work with your Nav 5 if you import the GPX file as a track and convert the track to a route in the unit. (I don't know if this is possible?) However, this will only create a route with a start and end and you will have to turn recalculation off to ensure that the route does not get corrupted if a recalculation takes place and take you to the end, using the Nav5 Routing logic. Also, Calimoto uses Open Street Mapping and even if you do get a route to work it may not work well for certain routes as OSM maps and Here maps work slightly differently.

Hi,
Thank you again. Very knowledgeable. I have limited knowledge of this and tend to find my way with trial and error. Takes time. YouTubers make it sound easy. It’s only when you try it, you come up against problems.
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.
Meeting with my biking buddy soon to discuss and prepare some routes in advance of our tour. This information will be very helpful.
Best wishes,
Archie
