I'm interested to know how many people with an 08 or later GS/GSA that have removed the cat either by cutting or replacing the headers have also gone on to install a power commander or whether you've trusted the engine to manage itself.

I fitted some remus headers on my 08 GSA a few weeks back and love the effect. Smoother pickup, sounds great and I have no issues at all. After some recent posts saying it may now be running lean I am concerned and don't want to damage the engine, I may need a power commander or some such device to manage it.

I'm also confused as I thought BMW did offer the Remus headers as an option, if so do they leave the engine mapping alone?

I understand the logic but I still have the stock end can and filter so wanted to gauge some feedback from others. Are you running stock still or did you also add a power commander type device.

I'll try and do this as a poll.

kept as stock
de-cat, stock pipes, no pc
de cat, other pipes, no pc
de-cat, stock pipes, pc
de-cat, other pipes, pc

Thanks

Steve

If you're not running a PC or similar device can you tell us how long it's been running like this and have you had any "lean running" issues?

cheers

Steve

interesting so far, so if the 08 1200 and on run leaner than older 1200's then there's a few of us who "may" have issues if this is true.

If this is also true then I would expect at least one of you to have had issues already and I don't think you are. So my conclusion so far is not no worry and enjoy riding the damn thing :-)

My dealer says a decat is fine providing you don't use a free flowing air filter. If you do, you must fit some form of fuel system adjustment eg techlusion, PC etc.

That's definately what I was led to believe when I was looking at the header replacement, just that I've seen a flurry of posts about lean running and pc's wunderlicht boxes etc over that last week or so.

Better safe than sorry so I though I'd ask.

15 responses so far and no one a) uses a power commander/fuel map adjustment and b) reported any problems. :thumb

Im a bit tired of reading "engine will run lean, the 12's run leaner, after cat removal a PC is needed etc"...what does lean mean anyway??I remove my cat an the bike is running great, better at low revs and great after 5k rpm's,if someone indeed had a problem in the future after removing his cat and didn't fit a PC please tell us and maybe then we get to the conclusion that the engin will run lean after the cat is gone!

My 08 GSA now has 13000 miles on it. At about 3500 I fitted Remus headers and also a K+N Filter and it was fantastic. Much more responsive and free flowing. At about 4500 I put on the Remus end can on and run it like that up until last week when I put the standard end can back on. Why! Well I just found it a bit load all the time and it was begining to anoy me. I have found absoulutly no differance in power with the standard can back on only a reduction in exhaust note. I am off to Scotland for a week Friday and have deicided on my return I am going to fit the Keihan headers. I like the look with the balancer pipe at the front and just fancy them. Not in a sexuall way of course. Any way my bike has suffered no ill effects at all during it's 13000 mile life and it's not even a year yet:beerjug:

Thank you!!And yes it is annoying sometimes if an aftermarket can is on also,my bike with no cat, akro can makes a lot of noise and maybe i put the baffle in for a longer trip, but in town it's kind of fun..!!
