Living/Working in Melb.

Personally I wouldn't recommend residing in Collingwood. The area is predominantly semi slum. Particularly areas around Smiths St. Inner suburbs rentals are dear especially in the better suburbs. Many inner suburb residental places have no or limited off street parking (not uncommon to charge extra rental if it has off street parking). Outer suburbs = poor public transport. For me, from northern suburbs, public transport commute into CBD (St Kilda Rd) is close on 2hrs - by bike 30 - 35 min (approx 42Km, I use the tollways as bikes don't pay tolls) but the most direct route 26Km takes about 50 mins and has approx 100 sets of traffic lights including 14 in 7 Km. I guess like most cities the further out you live the cheaper rentals are but in Melb at the moment rentals are apparently short, hence rents are high, which is not expected to change in the near future and may get worse depending on the federal election result (24 Nov).

we pick up the beemer on thursday (australian time) forcast loks good il l be working that day so linda has the task of a train trip 2 hours to melbourne and a ride home. if the reports of this bikes performance and ride are even half true she will probably want to swap the suzuki when she gets home

am fortunate to be living in a country town the area is named gippsland and we are close to the maountains the lakes and the beach all within 2 hours and all along winding county roads. every trip is a picture in this area and being well out of the city makes it all much more pleasurable.
