Can anyone tell me if the back break operates the front breaks on a 1150, compared to a 1200 which I believe only operates the front?
Also can you unlink a 1150 (I know most of you would not want to)?
Thanks:)

eerr.. linked brakes?

Not on this forum!

i think you mean you have abs mate.

I'm not sure if you ride a BMW but the front and back breaks are, very much linked!:)

some though not all 1150's (with the servo I believe - 2002 on)

no 1100s were though.

I also believe it is possible to remove the servo from those 'so' afflicted bikes and revert them to ordinary. but I think you will have to give up the ABS.

I'm sure someone will confirm or deny that.

wow.. never heard of that one.. linked brakes.. yuck...

Thought the servo system was seperated on these? goes to show what i know :augie

you may be right... and I may be wrong. 'servo' is another one of those words that makes my toes curl.

As you mention, you should be able to remove the system pretty easily, simple replumbing job then, 2 lines to the front brakes. Is the master cylinder different on servo jobbies? if not then simply run the lines from there to the brakes, and repeat on the rear brakes with 1.

You would lose abs though.

Which means you could rip all that stuff out and loose loads of weight off your bike! :thumb2

The back brake pedal operates ONLY the back brake on the servo/ABS models of 1150/1200.

The front brake lever operates BOTH the front and rear brakes due to the PART INTEGRAL function.

thank god i have a propper bike, and a brain that can send signals to my body to use my brakes how n which one i want:D

I'm new to servo assisted brakes too. Aside from that whine they give, I like em. Shitting a brick about the power going and losing all braking power:nenau

Nice one for the guidance carl :thumb2

Get 2 pressure switch banjos - £10 each from the guy i get em from.

Jobs a good un.

You don't lose all braking power, you just need to be harder on the brakes. Something I do from time to time when on a quiet country lane is to switch off the ignition and do an emergency stop.... obviously with no servo assist. So then if the servo did fail I hopefully wouldn't panic.... hopefully :D

I've been meaning to try this for ages but instead each time I find a quiet country lane I seem to develop and uncontrollable urge to rag the tits off the bike and see how fast it'll go through the bends. Maybe next time......:D

Does anyone know for sure the situation with the 03 bmw r1150gs?

They told me in my local BMW garage that on some of the GS modles the back also opperates a precentage of force to the front, I know that no 1200 have this but can anyone tell me which bikes have?

ABS is really good and I think Honda are trying to introduce it in to MotoGP this year, so it is not all bad, but could some one tell the folk at BMW most riders like to be in control, fully of their own bike:)!

How's about a little self-help.

Bike on main stand with the engine running, apply the rear brake, and then with the rear brake still applied try turning the front wheel by hand.
