Guys this is my first post so be gently with me :-

After much deliberation, Planning & research I have finally taken the plunge and committed to take my midlife crises to the next level with my first trip to Morocco. The Plan (not yet set in stone) is to leave 4th April Portsmouth then returning on the ferry on 16th April which should give us 8 days in country , currently have several route options and one companion to ride with but open to advice from you all or offers of anyone who wants come along. I will be riding 1200 GSA my mate a XT660Z Ténéré

I think he is allowing a couple of days each way through Spain.

I am a Morocco virgin but there are a group of us going at the end of March, beginning of May. I am currently researching possible routes.

Welcome to the site by the way.

Either will be fine.....May will be on average a fair bit hotter than April, getting up into the high 80's inland, but April can also be wet, so it's swings and roundabouts.

If you can, avoid a period that coincides with either French or Spanish school holidays/half terms, as the despicable Johnny furriners have increasingly been swarming across and you'll find hotels booked up or more expensive.

May 1st is a date to keep in mind, as it's Yaûm Al-Âmal (the equivalent of mayday/workers liberation day) and most cities will have disruption, although the tourist side of things and hotels will be largely unaffected.....there were some pretty big demonstrations last year around the country though, supposedly triggered by the 'Arab spring' but all went off relatively peacefully in comparison with countries further east.

I think If I was to pick a time to go in those two months this year, I'd go for May, but either month will be good :thumb2

EDIT I should add that the only reason for that really is that for nearly every year in the last 7 or 8, I've run a trip that had to span Easter and the UK's bank holidays, which gave 'Joe Punter' an extra day or two to open up a fortnight's holiday.....If I was taking just Rosie away over there for a fortnight now though, I'd pick May.

I did a similar trip in 2009 which lasted 15 days from the UK and back via Plymouth to Santander and then down through Spain and onwards to Morocco.

Best advice I can give is dont bother camping ( i did ) you need loads more kit which ways you down a lot more and the auberges are so cheap its not worth the hassle.

1 day on ferry.
2 days through Spain.
9 days in Morocco
and home

Some long days in the saddle but we did get around a fair bit and took in quite a bit of Offroad on some long distance tracks, We had a ball as Iam sure you will.

if I knew how to post a link to show you the video of what and wheres possible in that timescale I would but sadly I cant remember how to.

stand by I will give it a go

Chris

Would you go to europe by yourself ? If so then go to morocco by yourself as it's basically the same as europe but a bit emptier.

And in the towns there's a hotel on every corner.
