I'm looking at a GPSmap 60 CSX on Ebay and want to make sure it's got Atlantic (european) base maps. I've asked the seller, who doesn't know:blast

Can someone with a 60CSX post up with the key strokes needed to see what the base map is please?

Ta:thumb2

Switch on, toggle through pages using page or quit button till it show the map page, press menu button, toggle to 'setup map' then press enter, toggle down through loaded maps menu, last item shown on mine is ‘Americas marine base map Jan 2001’ I take that to be the base map as mine is an America 60Csx and I haven’t loaded any such map myself.

With no data card in it just shows ‘Americas marine base map Jan 2001’ so I guess that proves it.

By the way, there’s no problem owning an Americas GSP so long as you load world map covering Europe along with your chosen maps, works just the same, sept you might want to pay a little less...

there's a dutch site where you can download a euro basemap that works nicely with the 60csx. i have it on my US spec unit.

be aware that garmin don't supply any navigational mapping (City Navigator) with that unit, it is purchased separately anyway.

I thought the base map couldn't be changed, which is why I was worried about it having a US base map. Am I wrong:nenau

It overlays the original base map, if I then load the map of Crete for example the original base map returns. Does that make sense?:thumb2 It's always there.
Also, thanks for that euro map, but when I zoom in, the land/sea mapping is faulty, it just shows land:nenau

you can't change, or remove, the original basemap, but you can choose which maps are displayed.

in the menu, you uncheck the US basemap, but check the new euro one + any others you want such as city navigator or metrowizz.
i don't think such options exist in older units like the 2610, which is why the correct OEM basemap was more important.

my gpsmap60csx currently has the original US basemap, the geodude euro basemap, city navigator, UK topo, and some local bluechart maps installed. i just switch to whichever i want displayed in the menu :)

If you want to take a look at the unit to see how everything works let me know - we have the 60 CSx

I'll see if I can find the manuals (can't promise anything as we have had a clear out recently) and let you know

Does it not......

On pressing the 'on' button, the screen goes blue, and for approx 4 seconds, displays the Garmin copyright information of the gps unit. Then for another 4 seconds displays the base mapping 'type' of unit.

For example, my unit displays:-

Recordable Route Hwy Basemap ATL v.2 2.0
c and DATA IRELAND ltd.
