Hello,

Having been told that my rear brake is dragging I spent the morning ringing around various brake specialists only to be told that nobody in the local area will touch motorbike callipers as they aren't worth the hassle.

I then rang the dealer to find out if they had any seal kits in stock, only to be told that there are non in the entire country.

Can anyone tell me if any other manufacturer used the same rear brakes as a 1994 1100GS so I could try those dealers?

Alternatively, could anyone tell me the sizes/dimensions and a description so I can try some motor factors/seal specialists?

It seems like my options are to find the seals myself or to order from the UK and wait two weeks before I can begin the job.

Thanks in advance!

Try wemoto.com for calliper repair kits. It’s still shipping from the uk but could be cheaper than OEM

The BMW part no for the seals is 34212330311. A Google search might bring up a supplier nearer to you.

They come up as D26/28mm which sounds Id =26mm o/d=28mm. But looking at them I would put them thicker than 1mm. Ask around your local hydraulic suppliers for piston seals, which is all they are, make sure the seals will be compatible with Dot 4 hydraulic fluid.

It is likely that the seals currently fitted will have a part no stamped on them. BMW don’t make the seals, they buy them in.

There's an Australian version - I'm going to make the assumption that it's quicker to order from Australia than from the UK...
Thanks for that tip, it might have saved the day...

Sorry just seen where you are located so postage may be a little more, lol!
They may be able to help with spares etc...

The thing that is annoying me is that there appears to be nobody in NZ (at least nobody who has a website) who will do the same thing!

Your problem could be crap behind the seals. You could try removing and cleaning the piston, then carefully popping out the seal and cleaning the groove it sits in before reassembling having also cleaned up the pin.

Obviously you must be careful when removing the seal, at yer own risk etc etc.

Also check condition of brake hose. I had a dragging rear brake and it was the hose internals collapsing and acting like a one-way valve. Easy way to check is whether you can press both pistons back in together.

The pistons are different sizes, one 26mm the other 28mm.
There is no part numbers on the seals.
Powerhouse can iirc supply for the rear brembo but not the fronts.
As well as the main seals you will need the secondary dust/outer seals.
Pop the pistons and seals out,you may well get away with a good clean up if there is no damage to the seals
