Hi folks, I'm replacing/or regreasing my pinion bearings soon on my r1150gs 2003 as I have some play on them
So I thought I'd rebuild my bevel box at the same time. Q..... can anybody supply me with seal part numbers and O ring sizes/part numbers please? Just trying to save some money, as the kits are very expensive.

do you actually know what you are going to do ?
have you done one before ?
i fear this may end in disaster .
As above ….

For starters you’ll need a selection of shims if replacing bearings … you’ll also need a powerful impact gun to undo the output drive nut, and a deep four pronged tool to undo the inner ringed sleeve nut..

That's great thanks 😊
Oilhead manta is if it ain't broke etc and 2nd rule is you'll end up replacing twice the parts you thought you needed...
Usually it's only the crown wheel bearing that causes the big issues and that usually gets fixed when it fails...

you can always send Mikeyboy a box of bits , just remember to include ALL the bits :ROFLMAO:

1st picture is easy , never changed the small bearing , but did the big one + seal i did 3 times

2nd picture , i never touched in 142k miles of ownership.

Yes, it looks a job......ok if you have the gear, but the average fella won't have all the stuff, including me.
I've taken the cover off and the big crown wheel bearingbis fine, but I have a replacement anyway.
The large bearingnon the input shaft has a bit play, and the rear UJ is a bit notchy but no play.

Also looks like I'll need a jig to hold the bevel box, as that nut is tight.
So if you replace the tapered bearing with exactly the same bearing, why would it need re-shimming?
BTW that bearing seems fine.
So could you just check the large cover shim thickness required with solder wire and re shim?
Thinking it may be a idea to send it off, a lot less hassle, But I like having a go myself

I see what you mean, there's just too much stuff to gather for what's possibly a one off.
I'm going to fit the large crown bearing, seal and O ring, but as for the rest, I'm going to leave it.......I may have been a bit fussy when trying the pinion bearing, when the oil was in i couldn't feel it, but once washed with parraffin there was a very slight movement.
Thanks for the heads up, how much does a full professional rebuild cost?
I'm intrigued 🤔

I’ve had two rebuilt by Mikeyboy. :thumb2 A 1150 one and a 1100 one. A superb job done twice by someone who knows what he’s doing. The 1100 one is now on Rocky Burn’s build.
Send him a message.
It’ll be cheaper getting him to do it first than you fucking it up and then getting him to do it again, correctly. :D

Thanks, but I wouldn't attempt it unless I had the gear to do it, If i did i wouldn't think twice.
