Bevel box bearings

Mine has 1mm play top to bottom (not side to side). I've been told this was acceptable as it avoids the PL bearing being over tight.

If anyone advises otherwise I'll add it to my list of jobs, top of which is replacing the up-and-over garage door cable which went twang earlier this week, meaning I can't open the door.....

Thanks guys , think it's my drive bearing that's going , paralever bearings new and so are swingarm bearings . Balls bout the garage door :-(

Just found similar problem with the MWorks swivel bearings on my 100GS PD. Only fitted for a year, approx 6000 miles. Big grooves in the off-side bush/cup, and start of wear on the near-side one.
Looks like cheap poor quality metal to me; not sure what it is but looks like brass or bronze?
I'll be sending part back to MWorks for their response!
