I took the 1150 for it's MoT in April as it was 3 years old. They passed the Big Beaky Bird but informed me that there was play in the back wheel. Spoke with Pragmatix and he said it could be the final drive or swinging arm. So beset with thoughts of lotza dosh going out I turned my attention to the O.E. rear shock which was getting a bit on the old and saggy side (like me I know). Shall I lash out on Ohlins/White Power or what? (£450 or so)
Any way off I toddled the other week to Calterdons from whence teh Beaky Bird came. They examined her (33750 miles) and told me that it was the final drive bearing but they only fitted a whole new rear drive shaft (£512 + Vat) and that the shocker was worn. Glum faced I spoke with Shirley in parts reception who told me that altough the bike was 1 year out of Warranty she would try a good will claim with BMW. Next day she phoned with the news - - - BMW would pay for the new shaft and 1/2 of the shocker if I paid labour and 1/2 the shock total to me - - £300, done I said. Next week all parts in, Beaky Bird to Calterdons and job done. Pretty good I reckon. I know there are the ones out there who support the view that if you buy a BMW it should never ever fail or wear out but in the real world I reckon Calterdons and BMW did just what it said on the tin

Nice outcome Andy, and good to hear this level of service from my “local” dealership.:thumb

Thanks for posting this Andy, sometimes I feel that we are all quick to report bad experiences/service levels from dealers and let the ones that go the extra yard pass without comment.

I have found Ali , the parts manager, friendly , knowledgeable and a genuine stand up guy.
Brian Widdison, in the sales department, likewise.

To add some balance to this post, there are times that I go to Calterdons, I look at the bikes the clothing etc and I feel as though I have become invisible ! ? that they don’t want me in their (car) showroom, wearing all my non branded bike gear. They could improve this side of their customer service.:nenau

Calterdons quick assist

I agree - I had a battery problem 2 hours before I was leaving for Orkney - called the parts dept - was informed battery was dry and would require 12 -24 hours to properly charge - informed them of my planned ride and they had the battery acid filled and on a low trickle within 1 hour - I rode through an hour or so later - pitched up the tank etc and had battery fitted within two hours of my call -was warned re possible charge state of battery and given all assistance could have asked for at short notice - rode North & made Orkney then completed round top Scotland over next two days without a hitch - good guys & well worth the tenner tip !!
