I’m hearing Calum is back in business and opened a place in East Lothian area, possibly Tranent??

Anyone confirm??

Jim

Not heard anything, but I have bought a few bikes from Saltire in the past.
The last one was my Indian FTR, it was due to be delivered two months before my trip to the Assen MotoGP but was held up in transit and I was getting a bit nervous about missing the ferry, anyway it arrived less than two weeks before the trip and Callum personally offered to run it in up to the 600 mile service so I could have free rein to open it up on the trip.
While I declined and managed to get most of the miles on it, he still made sure there was a spot available for the service before I left.
To me that was above and beyond most bike dealers service, so good luck to him.

Since you asked Jim...

Calum says:
I do have a wee workshop and courtyard over in Tranent, but I’m not actively open for business just yet. My focus is mostly on doing up my own bikes and cars/trucks and selling a few as they roll off the bench.

I’ve also done a couple of private commission custom bikes for bespoke requests, one of which was being photographed today, again all very rewarding.

All going well, I’ll be putting a motorcycle MOT station in over the Winter, and when things are complete, I’ll defo open the doors to the public, albeit under constricted hours of opening, but I’m still very much at the early stages and wouldn’t want to put the cart before the horse.

Thanks again for the heads up, I’m happy for you to share what you know..

Agreed. I’ve known Calum since he was a laddie - I worked beside his dad.

Bought my latest KTM from him/Davie/Saltire. Couldn’t have asked for a better deal.

Good to know. Thanks for sharing

I used Calum a couple of years ago for my valve check when he was at Roslin.

As I type - my broken down bike is booked in to be delivered (van) to Calum next week in Dalkeith.

His wife Suzie took my call and promised Calum would have a shot.

Fingers crossed for a fix.

Ahhhh. Different Calum

We’re talking Calum Murray who owned Saltire Motorcycles not Calum Baker of Custom etc

Jim

Calum Baker is good. He just replaced the ABS pump on my R1200GS. I had bought a used pump from James Sherlocks and Calum was able to reuse the electronics from my old pump so the bike systems did not need to be recoded. BMW wanted £1200 for a new ABS pump. The 2nd hand option proved better value but more work for Calum.

I still have the R1100S that Calum Murray sold me in 2001 when he was running MotoEcosse down on Ferry Road. It was his own bike so had some nice parts already fitted. The R1100S is currently sitting in Central Customs awaiting an MOT.
