I see the recession as far as Airhawk cushions and comfy bum cushions will be off :aidan:aidan

I'm still not sure what I've let myself in for. I know it's about 4000 miles, but never having ridden more than 400 miles in a day, it's difficult to imagine.

Yup, Jaythro, I know it's a long run, but at the moment I'm thinking of it more as a big adventure. I'm more curious about what it'll do to our perceptions - what do we (individually or collectively) do next, that won't be an anticlimax?

An Airhawk's definitely on my shopping list, for starters.:D

Fork Me but it's a long Run, The Gambia is the wee strip

Interesting fact for you.....and not many people know this ;)

It is indeed a little strip.....

In fact, it's one gunship shell wide

The borders were set in the early 19th century when it was a British colony- we sent a gunship down the River and they claimed whatever fell under the range of the biggest cannon on it.....gunboat diplomacy at its finest :D

Some easy to handle history about Gambia HERE

PS apart from the seedy sex industry (thousands of fat middle aged white women buying young black studs very openly in bars and hotels, dodgy podgy white men buying the same and a large amount of white blokes buying underrage sex with girls as well ) on the coast areas, it's a fantastic country :thumb2

EDIT Gambia was also the home of slavery, with more slaves sold by blacks to whites than were taken by the whites themselves...McArthy island was the centre of it all and when you ride through it (which I suspect the route will take you on) you'll see the slave house and many poignent reminders of it all .

Talking about buying bits...

Have been drooling over the Touratech catalogue ever since I signed up for this little ride out to Gambia. Before I have to sell the house to fund my dreaming thought it would be useful to get some advice from those who have done it, got the t-shirt and the scars to prove it.

I will be on a standard 03 plate 1150GS and would be interested in hearing what the minimum adaptations I should be thinking about for the trip. As an example had a look at a bigger tank and that's currently priced at £1100  but is it necessary? I know I will be adding crash bars, TKC80's, HiD50 and already have the ali panniers, system top box, ZUMO 550 and Autocom but what else must I have and what would be nice to have.

Look forward to hearing other views and suggestions on how to spend some money:D.

Cheers

A Jerry can is as good as a bigger tank other than that you seem to have the package bike wise :thumb2

So say's me:blast
