Cam Sensor Is not a Fix for Recalled Bikes

Hello Guys, I had my Cam Sensor replaced on Friday by Calterdon (Inverness) to cure the stalling problem in 1st and 2nd.

It does not cure problem it has made no difference.

Anyone else had it done?

I had a stalling problem when I first got my '08. (bought second hand privately)

My BMW garage did a 'system' reset. Said go away and see how you get on, seemed to do the trick.
 
sorry to hear - you must be really fed up -as I was suffering this on a brand new bike.

A special tool is needed by the dealer to set up the crankshaft/camshaft synchronisation. I had my bke adjusted without replacing the sensor at 200 miles and it cured it. No change when the CSR replaced at 1100 miles. You might want to check that your dealer has got the tooling ie they didn't just slap onthe CSR and /or they have done the job right. My dealer said they could see how it would be easy to get this adjustment wrong - as was done in the factory. Clutching at straws but worth a second look by your dealer....

TY Guys, Just called dealer they said the Bike already had new cam sensor fitted at production stage obviously? They also checked for fault codes none showing. This is my 3rd GS I'm quite experienced at riding GS bikes but this stalling is out of ordinary. It goes back on Friday for a 2nd look.
 
Are you sure it's a cam sensor problem? I thought the cam sensor issue caused a drop in power making the bike feel like it was going to stall on downshifts, but very very rarely did it actually stall? If yours is stalling a lot my guess is that it's not the cam sensor :nenau
 
Hi Snerkler not actually stalled but I've dipped clutch not convinced it won't stall if I hadn't pulled clutch in swiftly.

Hopefully they'll find the problem when it goes back in whatever it is :thumb2

Which dealer do you use?
 
I'm picking up a new GSA from Calterton tomorrow, this is not what i'm wanting to hear:( I thought by now they would have ironed out all these problems they have been making them for long enough now, I hope I have better luck with mine
 
I'm with Calterdon who have always been helpful and continue to be so. Fingers crossed it's not a huge issue just annoying.

I picked my new one up and it stalled within 30 seconds of leaving the dealership, it now does it 75% of the time shortly after starting whether hot or cold, makes no difference. Going in soon for a recall but Im a bit dubious about the cam sensor being the issue. :nenau
 
Interesting all this.

I have a 2010 - got it on launch day so must be an early one.

Never had a stall and now done over 2600 miles- although I have been told it is on the recall list.
 
I had mine done last friday but it wasn't stalling in 1st and 2nd. My symptoms were 'lumpy' running at low revs, poor acceleration and more worryingly stalling on downshifts and shut offs in 6th, 5th etc resulting in the occasional rear lock up and skid marks - both on road and in pants! The first time it did it there was only 20 miles on the clock!

The dealer was under the impression that the sensor issue causes poor idling and performance but not stalling (although many on here with the same issue also have stalling at speed) but since being done the bike is perfect :thumb2

They also said the sensor alignment was an issue and the ignition is also retarded as part of the fix.
 
Speak to the guys at Bahnstormer. Had my bike for 2 weeks and cut out a few times. Mentioned it to Paul on a passing visit.

They had my bike in workshop immediatelly, used some special tool to re-adjust cam timing (I believe) Took all of 15 minutes.

Bike running perfectly now and done a further 600 trouble free miles.

I found out Calterdon didn't replace Cam Sensor as it was already the new one fitted? Also they found nothing on Fault Code Reader. It goes in Tomorrow (Friday) for another look.
 
got new cam sensor and cam timing done still no difference bit of a dillema now as BMW can't find anything wrong may just be characteristic of new head?
 
your bike shouldn't stall - don't let them off the hook - take back and insist they fix the problem
 
Yep this is my 3rd GS and I've never had this prob before the others have been a bit lumpy but this is certainly different.
 
think they're fobbing you off - have they test rode it ? - it doesn't sound normal - my 2010 is also my 3rd GS and it's a smooth as a baby's bum. Absolutely no hesitation/ stalling or such like - and a lot better than the previous two.
 
Mines just had the cam sensor recall and its right as rain so far, seems to have cured the problem. Just hope I havent spoke to soon
