I'm trying to take my 1100's cylinder head off, I'm following Steptoe's guide and I have got to the part about undoing the cam sprocket one turn so I can cable tie the chain to said sprocket.

Just one question: how tight is that bolt done up?:spitfire I have tried to loosen it with varying amounts of strength, but I didn't want to go for full eye popping, hernia inducing levels of brutality before I checked that it really needs it.

Are they meant to be that reluctant to move? Is there something I'm missing here?

Thanks, in advance,
DA

Stout socket, long breaker bar, brute strength and a dash of courage.:D

What is the best way to keep the sprocket from turning when I heave on it? I tried putting the bike in gear and having someone stand on the brake, but it still moved a couple of times. Is there something else I can try?

Cheers,
DA

Put a pin in the flywheel/ring gear I think it's 10mm dia pin needed and it's on the left handside of the ring gear/case.:nenau I'm probably wrong!

IIRC...Remove the front engine/alternator cover (the black one) exposing the alternator belt. Place a spanner on the bolt head in the middle of the lower of the two pulleys now have some one hold this to stop the engine turning whilst you undo the sprocket bolt. If you get a Haynes manual it explains all.

Pretty sure this is correct but I am sure someone will correct me if I am talking utter b0ll0cks again :D
