Cambrian Rally 2007 who's entered? Advice wanted

Entry accepted, will be on my 400EXC, ability rating is either 7 or 8 (can't remember).

I'm using a 13 litre MXC tank, I guess I'll still need to refuel before the end of 3 laps? Do the organisers take your fuel cans out to the refueling point for you?

Can anyone confirm/clarify the following:

Your overall position at the end of the event is based on your times through the timed special stage?

The special stage on Sunday is different to Saturday's?

The first attempt at thye special stage on each day is untimed & is really a sighting lap to familiarise yourself?

Assuming you finish all the laps, all your timed stages are added up together to calculate an overall time or are they averaged out?

Thanks

Steve

I've got my place confirmed now, so there’s no going back. :D

well i'm back from the Hafren and that was brilliant - 44 mile laps with 3 special stages

2 laps for beginers 3 for the good guys.

The course was ideal for the Airhead, some great climbs on every thing from loamy soil to rocks and some with had dips (read mini jumps all the way up), trails with endless dips and woops and some fast forest trails - Red Mist Rules!

Learnt how to steer with throtle, the best bits having a buzzing stroker on your tail as you round a bend to find a long fire road climb... Time to roost the fecker

The Airhead was so so good... Johnny if you'd ridden here you'd not have sold it to me

Sounds great Wreford, and your bike would handle that very well:clap

I'm about to strip the forks on my 'Mistress' and re set the pre load in an attempt to sort the handling:thumb

Not long now:bounce1

This is all sounding a bit serious, I'm preparing my bike by checking its got fuel in it:augie

I suppose I should sort out some suitable clothing too. I hate MX boots as they kill me so it may be a pair of Dealers fresh from the stables ;-)

See you all there.

Are most people camping or getting a B&B???

Andy, be careful, I think the MX style boots maybe compulsory......
What are you going to wear instead?
The Start Marshals can stop you running if a safety rule is not adhered to.

And it looks like quite a few are camping at the Llandovery Rugby Club. Showers and beer is available there.

See you there on Friday.:thumb2

Cambrian campers

There is a campsite which has been recommended to me that is nearer to the start/finish than Llandovery. If anyone wants details, post here and I will pass on details (The rugby club hasnt got showers from my memory !!!)

The Martin S camp site is on the way to the start from Llandovery and is much closer than the rugby club but it is remote. There is a pub and a small shop in Rhandirmwyn but not much else, and the pub is not very biker friendly. There are a few other remote pubs within short drives of the site.

Mileages
From Llandovery to the start is about 15m/30min

Day 1
From the start to the first stage is 12m/36min
Stage 1 is 4.75m (not timed on the first lap)
End of Stage 1 to Stage 2 is 12m/36min
Stage 2 is 7m (not timed on the first lap)
End of stage 2 back to start/finish area is 12.25m/30m

You'll then have a 10mim break to refuel yourself & bike before doing a second lap with the two stages timed.

Day 2
From the start to the first stage is 12m/36min
Stage 1 is 4.25m (not timed on the first lap)
End of Stage 1 to Stage 2 is 4m/12min
Stage 2 is 6.5m (not timed on the first lap)
End of stage 2 back to start/finish area is 12.25m/30m

You'll then have a 10mim break to refuel yourself & bike before doing a second lap with the stages timed and then another 10min break before doing a third lap with the stages timed.

Of each lap less than 5 miles is on tarmac, and even that is tarmac that bikes come from far and wide for the pleasure of riding.

Sounds good Bob in TBM magazine this month it mentions that the route takes in part of the Strata Florida is this true ?

Tis true - between the special stages each day.

We've had a lot of extra paperwork and costs to get that in the course as it falls in yet another county. The event actually goes through three counties, Powys, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion each of whom we have to get CROW (Countryside and Rights of Way Act) closure notices from and also Section 33 (Road Traffic Act 1988, section 33) permissions, as well as all the landowners, quangos etc etc - there's a hell of lot of paperwork involved before we get anywhere near the forest.

The event starts at SN 78427 49278 - you drive over the Llyn Brianne Reservoir dam wall and follow the gravel road to the start. This is where you'll refuel body & bike each lap and where the toilets and burger van will be.

Stage 1 starts at SN 79197 57518 on both days. On day 1 it ends at SN 77492 60403 and on day 2 at SN 80782 60168.

On day 1 you head North (ish) for about 1.75 miles towards the top end of Strata Florida before turning South East at SN 78442 62518 and then South along the Strata Florida track back down to the Tregaron - Abergwesyn road and then heading East to go up Devils Staircase to the start of the second special stage.

On day 2 you drop straight down onto the the Strata Florida track immediately after the end of special stage 1 to join the Strata Florida track at SN 81032 60188 and head South back down to the Tregaron - Abergwesyn road before heading East to go up Devils Staircase to the start of the second special stage.

Stage 2 starts both days at SN 81952 56333 and ends both days at SN 84117 52798 but most in between is different.

I'll probably be at the start of one of the special stages doing the timing (I'll be in a very dirty red 5 Series BMW) - give me a wave :thumb (I'll also be in the Castle Hotel on Friday & Saturday nights ) I won't be using the bike as I'm off on Enduro Africa on the Friday after the event and my wife says I have at least to get there before breaking anything :rob

Anyone getting worried :D There'll be lots of marshals with cameras to take photo's and then help ;)

Timpo.

I've actually got mself some Alpine star Tech 3 bots which I can even fit into so will be in these although I called the organisers and they said I can wear what I want as they are my legs if they get broken and I have hurt them before wearing shorter boots.

Cant wait - see you there:thumb2 I'm camping at the Rugby site, my mates going in his camper van but as he's with his wife I'll leave them to it;)

Oh yes :eek

This time next week we'll be safely ensconced in our accommodation in Wales, getting mentally prepared, making last minute adjustments to machine & kit - and panicking :o

As I currently have a 100% non-finishing record the bar isn't set too high. Just hope I don't trip over it :augie

I would hope that you'll be helping me & Sugarcube to prop it up!

A. No
B. "legality" of your plate will not be of interest to the scrutineers, but you will be riding on public roads, so if local plod is thinking of having a crack down.........

My plate isn't legal, but then again doesn't look like a postage stamp IYSWIM.

Beasty new tyres turned up today so bike will be ready. My first rally. Can't wait. :thumb2
