Cambrian Rally 2007 who's entered? Advice wanted

I did say that we're only using a few of the shallower crossings on Strata Florida and they shouldn't cause anyone a problem :augie

Wreford - everyone will be parked at the start/finish area for the event but you won't be able to get there until Saturday morning and just tape up a broken indicator, we don't check if it's working.

What time Saturday morning can we get on the car park (I just can't wait :D)and is there plenty of space for cars & trailers? How is security :gringo

It's going to be a GREAT weekend :sunshine

Hi All,

As a long time lurker and very very infrequent poster, I've finally been lured into action by all the banter.

To cut a long story short, all the excitement on here surrounding the Cambrian got me thinking. A quick trip to the Mart in Kidderminster revealed a DRZ400 for sale (an 06 reg and just 2000 miles) and the price was negotiated down to a bargain £2500 (incidentally they've got another in if anyone is interested).

I faxed an entry form to Mandy this morning and got a reply this afternoon. I'm number 169. Eeek. No turning back now.

I will pick the DRZ up on Thursday sporting brand new MT21s, a new bashplate and handguards and chuck it in a hired van and trundle down to The Rugby Club on Friday afternoon.

I used to race motocross years ago but haven't really got a clue what I'm doing.

If anyone sees a bloke on #169, a DRZ400 (blue) emerging from an Enterprise Van, or emerging from a hedge looking like he doesn't have a clue what he's doing, please say Hi.

And thanks to everyone whose attitude and banter has got me so far, looking forward to the weekend immensely

cheers

Rich

OK Roo.
There's going to be some serious p!ss taking, and the easiest person to aim it at is known as Curly Tots. You'll know him as he will be hanging off the back of a bling-thing BMW Desert Race bike, blue though, not orange. The orange bling-thing bike is that of RickA, you can easily distinguish between the two, as CT hasn't got the same barber as RA.......:augie

Oh, the forecast is looking good.......:clap

Timpo.

Yep, it's the S. Original thoughts were to do it on my XTZ750 Super Ten but I baled out through fear, and my admiration goes to the GS1150/12 riders who are going for it.

I know it's a bit porkier than the E but if all goes well (ha ha, unlikely) and I enjoy it as much as I hope, I'll throw a small amount of cash at it to speed it up a bit and lighten it, depending on what I learn from my Cambrian experience.

Incidentally, tyre rim clamps indicate (to me) running low tyre pressures

Do I need to run much lower than say 24 front and 26 bac,k over all those rocks and gravel roads and (ahem) flooded streams ?

Agree with you on the weather by the way Timpo

So fecked off im missing all this. :(

Have a great event everyone, hope to be back on one next year sometime

Just back from Spain & have received the letter stating start # etc. Couple of questions:

1. How do we get our fuel cans to the start/finsh/refuel point?

2. Are plastic fuel cans okay or do they need to be metal jerrycans?

3. Do you have to hope that no one else takes your fuel?

Sorry if these are considered daft questions by some but not having done this type of event before, I've got no idea how it works.

If anyone wants to chuck a fuel can in my land rover for transport from the rugby club to the start, you're welcome to. As long as there's not 100 cans of course! :) Look for a maroon defender with a blue KTM 950.

Although camping at the Llandovery RC, I will take my Land Rover up to the S/F Area on Saturday morning. I can ferry some gear (fuel cans/tools,etc) up for people if so required. Make sure all your fuel cans are marked up with your name. Timpo.

Possu, as I earlier posted.
Fuel will need to be in jerrycan or red or green plastic fuel containers.
Use some silver or white gaffer tape and put your name and competing # on it in marker pen, that should do it.:thumb2
Mouse, what time you leaving Wirral? Are you going down alone?

Timpo.

I will be towing a large box van trailer from The Castle both days, with only one bike in it, and two spare seats in the car. If anyone needs a lift to and from the start, let me know.
Mark

The Castle seems to be mentioned a few times is this the same place see pic.

Cheers Timpo, will meet up with you Friday night.

There is a long fire road off the start area for parking, it does get busy and crowded but there is room. Security has never been an issue - you can go back to your car/van at the end of each lap to refuel.

That is a nice photo of the Castle Hotel, although the new owner has tarted up the front "patio" area as an outside drinking area.

We don't want to see your fuel cans, they can be metal or plastic, but it makes sense to put your fuel in proper fuel containers.

No one will nick your petrol, but if your really paranoid you can lock it in your car as they're probably out to get YOU :P

I personally wouldn't lower tyre pressures much from road pressures, particularly if it stays dry. The great bulk of the course is stony gravel tracks and there are only short sections that are muddy. If it rains you might lower them a little more but not as low as normal trail riding pressures.

There are no really deep or long water crossings, most are little more than large puddles.

If you haven't been to this area before I'd really recommend taking a camera around with you - and stopping to take pictures - apart from the Special Stages there are no real time pressures, you will have time to enjoy the views, which are spectacular around most of the course.

It takes so long to put these events together that we've already started planning next years event - hopefully we'll be able to actually start at the Rugby Club next year (as we did a few years ago) and use a few other forest blocks to get up to Llyn Brianne. We hope to be able to use the old rally tyre testing hill climb in Esgair Dafydd as a special stage again as well as Cwm Henog and Glyn Saer forest blocks - fingers crossed.
