Glad you cut the wooded section from the Sunday route

:nenau Did they? Mouse & I just followed Saturdays route in reverse. Maybe we missed a Sunday-morning riders briefing as we rolled up seconds before our start time :mmmm :o

Thanks to the organisers for all your hard work. :clap. It was a hugely enjoyable weekend.

I was in the area with a group weekend tour, just north of Rhandirmwyn, parked up near Llyn Brianne, and saw you guys on the road section...

Hats off to you all :thumb

You succeeded, one and all, to make me wanna do it next year

:beerjug:

I saw a group of very clean looking GS's parked up near the start of an offroad section and wondered if they were going to tag on the back-was that you??
I used my 650GS offroad for the first time and loved it. Going to get on the BMW school and then maybe get a dakar.
Come on in Micky the water's ............................. cold and muddy

I was tempted indeed

Did the BMW Off Road Course earlier this year, got a 21" front and another rear wheel already fitted with TKC's... ready to fit on the Dakar

Need Laughing Gas to take me down the quarry now

It was us but the bikes weren't that clean - we'd ridden the 14 mile track up the side of Claerwen Reservoir earlier. We just came across that section of the Cambrian whilst making our way across the mountains.
It was a good view point as we could see competitors coming down the valley side 1/2 mile away and then into the forest again in front of us.
Certainly remember seeing you on the 650 - well done - it must have been a bit formidable as a first event.

Sherpa ;)

Have to say it was my first event on the 650GS but I have been doing rallies on my pogostick for a couple of years but not any longer.

If they were clean GS's you saw then it was us... Sherpa's bike is a shed

So tell me Toni, tell me all about the Cambrian...

What do you have to do? what is the purpose? I'm a total novice, but very interested :D

Timed sections? navigational? Average speed? keep it simple please :rob

Many years ago I used to rally, here's a picture of my Saab V4 in Clipstone Forest on the National Dukeries Rally... I don't ride my 'bike any better

Just proving a point that two wheels are better than four... :helmet

See you next year... when I hope to put the young Sherpa, once and for all, in his place :P

Can someone who took place do a write up for us. I'd be interested in hearing about it, road / stage miles, how long it took, speed of the event (do you have to be really competitive) etc
Look forward to it.

Well done Fred and Dennis and anyone else from here :thumb

Not a write up but a brief summary :)

Each lap was about 38 miles. We rode two laps on Saturday and three on Sunday, but on Sunday the course ran in the opposite direction. The course wasn't marked (apart from the special stages and a couple of other places) - everyone got issued with a road book. But that's not as intimidating as it might sound, and you can just latch on to someone who knows where they are going :)

You have two hours to do each lap, but timekeeping isn't particularly strict. In theory you start each lap at a given time, eg first lap 9:30, second lap 11:30, third lap 1:30, but you're allowed to be behind schedule by up to an hour. In fact I think as long as you aren't way behind they'd let you carry on, but obviously the course has to be cleared by a certain time.

The course was very much gravel roads through the forest, with a bit of tarmac, and some more muddy stuff.:censor:But the majority was gravel, quite unintimidating for a beginner. All in all I'd say the course was the easiest of the rallies I've done this year, but it was still fun.

You can be as competitive as you like, although remember it's a rally not an enduro, in the past I've had people on enduro bikes shout abuse at me cos I've been "holding them up" in a special stage, I'm happy to say everyone I met at the Cambrain had an excellent attitude and there was none of this sort of nonsense. In short, you really don't have to ride fast, or race people, just treat it as a big trail ride :)

Having said that I had an excellent chase with a guy on a pogo stick in one of the specials, we had the obligatory "bloody hell those big bikes aren't slow" conversation at the end :D

In short - do it! The more big bikes the better at these events!
