Cambrian Rally

How do able is this on a 1200 chaps?

I did it on a V-Strom last year, didn't finish as I missed the last lap on the Sun, but it was all do-able. As long as you have a little bit of trail riding experience then a GS would be fine.

Hi Gary,
I tried it on the 1200 last year and did not complete because I was struggling. I did two laps fine but pulled out on lap 1 on day 2.
However you are a much better rider than me and I would reckon bike fit so I think you would be able to have a fair crack at it. The main breaker for me was thinking I had to ride the damn thing home as I picked it up for the umpteenth time.
Regards
Rich

I got my 1150 round fine to. The only place i struggled was at the end of the first special on day 2, where you dropped down through the old timber field into strata florida (?), it was a case of just hang on and go with the bike, but apart from that it was a good challenge.

Just make sure you have the pre-load on your shocks as high as possible, and you take all the breakable stuff like mirrors, screen ect off before hand.

It's very doable on a big bike, and you'll certainly enjoy the comfort of a leisurely cruise through the liason stages in comfort, while everyone else on pogo's get bounced about!

If the 1200 is anything like the bike it replaced, you'll find it very tractable.

Also get a headlight guard fitted if you haven't already. Some nice tw@t on a ktm roosted me at the start and took out my dipped beam. IIRC it was £150 for the replacement.

I should be back again this year, looking for aforementioned ktm rider with a view to using him for traction with the xchallenge.......:spitfire

Nathan, as the TW@T on the 450 ktm I look forward to meeting you and your new X Challenge this year....:)
I too have upped the anti.... :hide ....Now on a KTM 690 Enduro... shall we trade rooster trails on the route or just throw stones at each other at the tea van?

Whoppss! Sorry fella, that comment was intended to be tongue in cheek, obviously came across slightly differently...

I knew when i entered that the bike might take a bit of a battering, and thought i'd covered every eventuality, but never considered headlight protection until i heard the crash... :thedummy

I'll be really interested in seeing how your 690 performs, currently weighing up sorting the suspension on the XC, or chopping it in for the orange bike...

I may be tempted to wobble around, hummmmm

skygod do fancy holding my hand and showing me how to ride a GS :D

perhaps a 21" front wheel and a set of mt21s on the old 1150 :rolleyes:

No problem at all...... the response was similarly formulated....:thumb2
If I really had taken offence I would have kept quiet and done something sneaky... like stuck KTM stickers all over your new bike...:green gri
See you out on the trails....:clap

Anyone from Lancashire coming down to the Cambrian in a van or car???

The other half has bought a pedal bike that we need to collect.

(Oh, and how do I get an invite to the shhhh farmhouse)

Final Instructions

Just got my final instructions and have noticed that the start is not at the same place as the map in this thread

Only a little further around the Lake. Just got my final instructions too, No. 31. Finally found the electrical fault on the 640 that was causing my battery to flat over a couple of days, so well pleased. Looking forward to a good weekends sport! :thumb
