and what about this? Nigel proving his HP2 is an off-road weapon not a posing pouch.

Thanks to Bob and all the marshals, it really was a great couple of days. I might not be smiling in that photo of yours Chris, but I am still smiling on the inside - what bloody great fun.

Thanks also to all those who stopped to pick me up on the muddy section - Chris, Ian, unknown pogo stickers too. You'll be pleased to know the next lap saw me get round intact.

It was my first rally and people couldn't have been more helpful, no posing or intimidation just an excuse to blast (OK, dawdle in my case) around some magnificent scenery.

Give it a go.

Andy

Just have to echo all the sentiments expressed above, especially with regard to the superb organisation, it simply couldn't have been better ! Cheers to Bob and his crew.

This was my first ever off-road event, but I'm afraid I didn't have the bottle to take the GS, took a teeny little XR250 instead. I never thought I could go that fast off road, but how you guys (particularly Ian and Chris) manage to look sooo smooth whilst manhandling a GS over such terrain at silly speeds I'll never know !

Definitely looking forward to the next one....would that be the Red Kite in March 06, or are there any other to look out for?

It was worth it in the end

To all,

Bushboy here and all be it a little sore. Had a blast running around on the GSA, yeah just a big MX bike but faster on the open bits.
Fell off on first lap, DOH ABS still on... my mistake. Stupid Stupid Stupid and now I have a black and Blue leg to show for it. When I get the pics from Sorebums I can post. First lap, 1 mile into it and opps.. no brakes when I needed them. Sharp right hander, no brakes... well had better lay her down and see how I get on.
Crash bars saved the engine but not me. Still went on to go as hard as I could for the rest of the day, few beers at the Castle pub that night saw me right for the Sunday events.

As per Saturday, go hard as can with poor traction, wet tracks with a polished surface, deep ruts in places etc..

I was/am looking for good times and hope the special stages show this to be true and correct. Hats off to Bob and all involved with the event. Was a hoot, only complaint was very fast and open and not enough technical sections but over all FANTASTIC!!! will be back for next one. Maybe even the Kyte event.

Will post pics when I get them sorted.

To all those on a Pogo stick weapon, wheres the challange? hard but not nearly hard enough. I tell ya all, it felt good getting comments re effort etc to get around on the GSA but not nearly as good as making new friends and seeing old ones again.

Cheers all,

Casey

The Hafren is in December, thats a good event.....lots of familiar faces will be there...not quite got the 'matey' atmosphere of the Cambrian but a good opportunity to blast around some more great scenery.
I used a KLX 650 last time and it coped well....but Im dropping to the DRZ400 again..... the 950 KTM will be 3 years old for next years Cambrian so I think it will be about right to let it have some off roading....

Thanks!!

Thanks again to Bob J and the WTRA Team for a fantastic weekends fun on the Cambrian. :clap :clap

Well organised and hosted and a great first Rally for me - I have not had so much fun in ages. Great scenery and good  at the Castle on Saturday.

I did not attempt it on my GS (wimped out and bought a XT Tenere! rider 127) but hats off to all those of you who tackled the event on yours'

Planning to tackle the Hafren in Dec on the XT and looking forward to Big Bike Challenge 2006. :D :D :D

Safe riding

I was there!

What a great weekend. My first rally, but not the last. I was the bald bearded one with the red BMW Savannah suit on a Honda CRM250MK3. I recognise all the GSrs in the picture of course, mainly because I was looking at them wistfully wishing I was on one. On the other hand the CRM was a lot easier I suspect....

The HP2 had to be the bike to ride, if it belonged to someone else!

Thanks to all the organisers for the hard work and hope to see you next year...on the CRM.

Dave

Thanks for all the thanks everyone, I'll pass them on to everyone involved. We were very lucky with the weather, it's been chucking it down ever since.

The results will be posted out to everyone but in the meantime they are available at http://www.ukoffroad.info/Cambrian2005/proresults.htm. Good to see Phil Gunn doing so well on his GS 800 bitsa getting best services rider and best GS. Casey Thomas also did very well and got a reward for his all his pain on the GSA as best over 1100.

Believe it or not we have already began planning next years event and a longer course with more technical bits and possibly some harder bits for the sports bike class are being considered.

Once again thanks for the thanks and we're glad you all enjoyed yourselves.

hi bob
never made it this year(work)could you tell me if the HP2was in the right class,if so do you think there should be a class for say sport's bike's above 750,what do you think?
cheer's....loz

Nice one Phil and Casey :thumb, good consistent times. Only one crash Casey? Obviously not trying hard enough. :dabone

The course was great fun. The second special stage especially was a beauty. 6.5 miles long, fast sweeping bends and long straights where you could really get a move on. Slippery mud in places, but with a bit of finesse not a problem. It felt great to get the bike sliding on the power, drifting out of the bends, yee hah!:D There were one or two tight corners to catch you out if you got carried away, but the track was wide which gave some room for error.

Another highlight was a climb with some little rock steps that made a good trials section – a nice challenge to ride it feet up. A few more technical bits next year would be great Bob:clap. Having alternative (harder) choices for the enduro bikes is a good idea too.

It’s hard to see which class the HP2 should go in. I reckon it’s a good match performance-wise for the KTM950s and the tricked-up airhead G/Ses, which are both in the 800-1000cc trailbike class I think? It’s a bit of an oddity in amongst the enduro (sports) class.

Thanks Bob and crew, and all the riders who made it such a fun event :thumb.
