Si, you are not the only one, seems like not many of us noticed it either, good job Proffs awake.

I also had a look at those pics in the magazine of the three dakar bikes, Clearly shows the position of the rear number boards, they were quite a bit lower than where you have yours at the mo.

Today I've been

Priming, filling and rubbing down and the filling some more followed by more sanding and priming. When that was done I'd needed to do more filling, priming and sanding. You kinda get my drift. Anywho it's all ready for some final primer and then a few coats of White base tomorrow and the if all goes to plan it should be finished by Sunday. All the glass fiber work I've had done should look ok, it won't be super smooth like a moulded part but I recon the original panels probably wern't anyway. I'll post some picks on Sunday when it's done.

I'm still at work and won't finish till past 12 midnight.

Do feel a bit of a prat about the forks as I just hadn't noticed.

we have all done it mate - my list of stupidity is endless

1. leaving exhaust bung in whilst jetwashing. Spending an hour with a hairdryer drying the electrics out as the bike wouldnt start
2. leaving a rag in the airbox after cleaning the filter - another hour of my life I wont get back
3. Riding off with a disc lock on - painful and expensive
4. Not listening to the pre-65 boys who all told me not to use a foam airfilter on a big single. I understood why when the bike set light. Grabbed a can of coke from a kid to put it out
5. Forgetting to tighten an exhaust up - only noticed it when I ran over it!

my wife says that I shouldnt be allowed anywhere near a toolbox without supervision.

Have you thought to take a mould off the fibreglass work just incase you have a mishap? A lot easier to make new if needed then.

At the mo. Panicking a bit as it is cos I've not alot of time to be ready fer the weekend. Might do it later in the year when I've got some time on my hands.
Today I got the base White on everything and tomorrow I'll be rubbing it down and applying the final coats. Then it's on to assembly.

Do yer. I'm a firm believer in using vehicles no matter how old and rare. I'm not keen on museums as the vehicles aren't alive just sat there on show. Camille will be ridden, maybe not as hard as I used too but she will be on the road and the occasional trail. Check out some of the past events to see her in action off road. After all she's bloody horrid as a road bike but really comes into her when you throw in a bit of mud and loose stuff.

new apprentice

had a little help yesterday and he did a good job. He now knows how to use verniers and he's handy with a spanner
Got the airbox assembled and the driveshaft in with the swingarm all fitted. did some other odd jobs and finished the painting Haven't swapped the forks round yet but might do on tuesday with some other jobs on the front end.

spent this morning running about fetching stuff but had chance to get the painted bits out of my spray booth. Kinda happy with the results, not perfect but i'm running outa time so it'll have to do fer now.

ffs just noticed the michelin stickers are the wrong way round and should be yellow writing on a black background and the antar logo's way too big. may have to stay as is fer now as my printer chap is abit busy at the mo.

just looked in on your pictures and it looks great, just a quick question though, did the bike when raced keep the electric start or did they bin it for weight and use the shin destroying kickstart?

I believe

They kept the electric boot cos on the pics of the bike back in 84 there's a starter button on the clock mount. I guess it would have been too much of a risk to just have the kickstart. I think the undersea tank also held the battery. Unfortunately there's a lack of photo's to really know.

Could also have been because the little short arse wouldn't have had a chance of kicking it over with his little stumps
