Just booked my camper on the ferry for 10 days in Ireland, family road trip.

We were just going to follow our nose, will we find any of the campsites booked out do you think?

Cheers.

Richie, if you are reading this. Will you be about? could pop in for a brew if so.

I didnt think that campers went to "Camp sites" i always imagined they just found a "Nice" secluded/quite spot and parked up for the night ?

I can only assume that your heading towards Kerry or the south west as a
general direction ?

Them southern Hoors are gonnie fleece ye , sure ye should be heading
"" NORTH"" young man , its the spot....

:D:D

A few nights in said spots will be my aim but with the wife and two little ones talk of toilet blocks will be ringing in my ears......

I'm saving the north for another trip - I last did it on a bike in 2001 but maybe meeting family there next year - wife hasn't been yet so it will be a nice surprise for her when she does see the place:thumb

No southerners retorting then? :D

Hi Rob, Yes we will be back for Easter, feel free to call by and I will show you where to go for free, as much as I like the campsite in Allihies it is basic and you already have all you need...

Galway is well serviced by campsites, Galway city right on the coast Salthill.
Renmore also looks a nice one.
Rural village only 12 miles from the city Spiddal.
Galway has the best of Ireland as well, best pubs and the best GS roads.

And the Best Prices ! .......
It has to be the second most expensive City in Ireland , and almost as
big a Tourist trap ,, After Our second city Dublin .

Visit the Capital , Then along the Causeway Coast south to Derry . Its
simply doesnt get any better and at a reasonable price.
Even though we have Tourism , the primary aim is not to Fleece them.

Hi Squid,
I don't imagine you'll have a problem getting spaces ina campsite, We're not a great nation of campers!!!:augie

Where are you getting the ferry to? Whether Dublin or Rosslare I'd head south, through Wexford, Waterford, Cork and Kerry;)

We'll be in our house in Tarbert, North Kerry for the Easter weekend, so if you'll be around then you'd be welcome to stop with us:thumb

There is a car ferry from Tarbert to South Clare, across the Shannon, so if you'd time to continue on up that way you may even get to Galway:beerjug:

It is well worth visiting! The beaches out toward Connemara are second to none and plenty of campsites too!

I'll pm you our numbers:aidan

So you concede that we have the best pubs?

Thanks folks - always a friendly bunch :aidan

I'll probably dawdle around clock wise from Dublin, progress will depend on the little ones needs for playing in the fresh air and the weather.

It would be nice to get up to Connemara but we won't be rushing along.

I went through in 2002 far too quickly and have it down for another visit sometime.

Two of us left the pack after coming over for the NW200 and followed the coast anti clockwise but time ran out and we headed back east just after reaching it. The weather was stormy and we saw a full on twister crossing one of the lakes:thumb2

Campsites in Ireland are expensive generally, 22€ a night seems to be the norm, 3€ extra for electricity on top of that, ill advise wild camping and common sense, have a read here

Thanks, interesting reading. I did a loop of the south in 08 on the GS with a tent and don't recall paying much at all. Prices for a bike and tent appear to be a lot better value. No wonder we like bikes:D

I did see a camping sign in Oranmore, i will check out all the Galway campsites and make a report

I was referring to staying overnight on a campsite in a camper squid, expensive enough, no idea about tenting :thumb2
