We are about to buy a tent and all the associated gear for the odd weekend away on the bikes. Not totally convinced though. Anyone got any views on the pro and cons?
I think you'll find that the ones who like camping will say it's great (me included) and the ones who don't like it will say it's crap!

So, until you know, try borrowing the gear instead of buying.
Or buy cheapo stuff off e-bay and flog it again if it doesn't work out.
Point is, no-one can tell you. You have to try it for yourself.

I can`t believe the questions some people ask on here nowadays.You either want to do it or you don`t.
If you do want to do it,then do it......and you can make your own mind up then,as nobody else can make it up for you.
If you had a more specific set of questions then you should have asked them.

I never book, i just stop on route it gives you more freedom
to stop where you want.

I'm booking an off season holiday with Canvas Holidays next year to take the wife and try it out... The tents are all ready up and waiting for you and a week including ferry is about the price of a cheap 2-3 man tent...so rather buy the tent that won't ever use if she hates it we will have some nice memories, but if she likes it I will be investing in decent practical tent and the best small to pack and light stuff..at al times looking out for best offers... As they get expesive!

Thanks for positive replies. As for others maybe you should lighten up a bit? I can't believe why people bother posting if all they can do is critisise. I thought this would be a fun place to join but having read a lot of the posts it seems a lot of people are up their own arses

Suits me.............but as said, only you know what you like................but crawling around on my hands and knees, on wet grass, getting in and out of a tent doesn't do it for me
Storing wet bike gear in a wet tent, when it's been pissing down for 24-36 hours.........no thanks
If I camp at a UKGSER event, then I take my 'tin tent' (Hiace Van with XChallenge in the back) and Tarp................with an army bed and quilt, it's bearable

I was sure I'd never camp again and sold all my gear.
B&B, fuel and prices of everything started to rise...and it became apparrent that UKGSer events and a few beer festivals were best enjoyed by camping.
I bought a £25, 3 man tent from Go Outdoors and a £10 sleeping bag and still use a 30 year old li-lo...the sleeping bag was soon replaced with a better one, but I've enjoyed 12 months of UKGSer events and a few other gigs before selling the tent on for £15 and buying a Khyam Igloo (again) now I'm sure I like it/can put up with it.

Satisfaction.
Campsite often the centre of "It" at events.
Con's:
Vulnerability to weather - end of day wet kit into ickle tent...
Carrying loads of crap - some make this an art form.
Midges.
Snoopy pulling out all your tent pegs...
No en-suite.

Camping has to be the best fun...as the missus says.....seeing as how I do all the cooking and cleaning when camping probably it's a good reason she loves it

put the tent up in the garden, cook on the gas stove and see if it appeals,thats what i did, love it now

Exactly....how the heck are we supposed to know what the OP likes/hates.....I can't even fathom out what my wife wants...even when she tells me.

At least we can pull our heads out of our arses long enough to make a decision..on a topic...that only we will know the answer to..........

It's called wind up
or cynicism.
The biggest winder uppers are often the most reasonable of guy's, the cynics are often the most experienced trans world travellers and respect to em but sometimes they have reduced patience, but read and learn from them....and it became apparrent that UKGSer events and a few beer festivals were best enjoyed by camping.
