Cams gone and option to get another bike?

4 that he knows about - who knows how many actually have this issue ;)

If it was a design fault there would be far more failing and no idea how it could be an owner fault.

Most likely a bad batch of cams.
I'd agree about the bad batch bit, save for the fact that it is spread over several years of manufacturing.

4 out of however many thousand isn't a bad mtbf, my concern is more the timescale of failures. All appear to be very low mileage irrespective of age, this suggest rather than a faulty batch of shafts, for example, it is more likely a design/owner fault which is a more serious problem.

Surely you have more friends than that ?

I'd be interested if the same issue is happening across the pond, as BMW NA handle things a bit better warranty wise compared to the UK, where it is no never heard of that problem before.

Next.

I have lots of friends... but since I bought the BMW, most tend to go out without me now

Yes but unfortunately with BMW's general lack of quality control there could be several bad batches over a number of years :nenau

I think its more, find the good batch... the one with the test piece in!!

Leaving thing on the side stand for sometime. Which way will the oil drain, which side has problems?

Owners do mirriad of little things that testers don't.

In preproduction testing of Honda V4 they never had a single cam failure; why, because they didn't ride bike until cooling fan cut in, engine was at operating temp.

With 2d dash it shows recommended rev limit and flashes all leds if you exceed it, you'll be surprised how long it can take for bike to go, ok now you can start making me work.

Its not all the RHS that has problems, theres a vid on another thread showing the LHS is the one with the problem. Dont know if it makes a difference but i never start my bike while on sidestand i always wait till im sitting on it and bike is upright.

Just bust a rib, and out went the coffee, that is a classic Del. :bow:thumb2:clap:clap:clap:clap

Why don’t they make a big normal 1500 or 1800 size boxer like the one they presented recently for the GS? Why all that cam trickery?

The bike the OP has is a 2017, not one with all that cam trickery. That engine has been around since 2013, so there must be 1000s of bikes that haven't had cam failure.
