.... other maps apart from mapsource ?

i've got access to digital files of street maps of sydney - which is all i'm after in detail -

can they be loaded and used somehow ?

Yes... And no....
As far as I know, the only Garmin unit capable of using other map files is the ique. That is because it is Palm OS operated.
When surfing the net for these items, I stumbled across some guys in Poland who made their own map software.
I believe I read something about a PC program they had made that could convert other map files into Garmin format. It was free to download.
Unfortunately I don't have more info at the moment, but you could try a websearch. I suspect that I found them via Google.
