Can An 1150 Be Ridden With The Rear Upper Mudguard Removed?

Thinking of getting my 1150 wrapped. There are three pieces to wrap - tank, beak & upper rear mudguard.

They want the tank and beak left fitted on the bike, but the rear upper mudguard removed.

Can the bike still be ridden with it removed?

Likewise how to mount your rear lamp and numberplate. :augie
 
Im sure you could rig up something to mount a taillight and indicators on, expertly engineered brackets, lump of wood, pillion passenger.
Out of interest what have you been quoted for getting it wrapped ?
 
€350. They're saying that's a special rate - they wrap the bikes for the school where I work. TBH I'm not overly impressed with the work they've done on some of those. They did say they'd get mine pretty close to a factory-look finish. Not many alternative options around, so if I do decide to go for it, it will likely be them.

Plenty of other stuff to sort on my 1150 before getting it wrapped - just starting to look into it for now.
 
Same here, I was going to get quotes from a couple of local places, one comes highly recommended
 
That’s a shed load of cash for some plastic film. Check out paint costs with TunnerUK before committing.

Agreed. And their normal rate for wrapping our school bikes has been €450+. But they use multiple sheets, so the seams and overlap lines are obvious. There are dust specs visible here & there, where the film is raised.

My boss is getting his bike wrapped with them soon, so I'll use that job as my decider - I'd guess they'll put their best effort into that job.

I've watched videos online, and TBH it does look very tricky to wrap stuff - I think I'd find it too frustrating.

I would prefer to have it painted, but have always presumed it'd be a lot more expensive. I've had a good look through TunnerUK's thread, and his work is deadly. And my job would be pretty simple - one plain matt colour, no graphics or designs. I might look into painting.

I do like the idea of the wrap being a protective film, and being removable, and not having to dick around with changing the colour on the log book.

Not urgent and not overly important - Spain-Portugal-France in September to pay for first.
 
I had my worldbeater panniers wrapped at a cost of £150, using 3M vinyl at a local place that has won awards for doing cars. They looked good at first, though joints were visible, but they started peeling after a few weeks and just looked shit. I am going to take it off and have them anodised instead. Waste of £150 though, lesson learned.
 
Have you considered that hydro dip stuff ?

No creases or joint lines.

I know that any digital image can be turned into a hydro dip coating, so surely any colour can be too.
 
Hydro dip is almost a paint. Looks great in camo or other mottled colours. I doubt it’s peelable like a wrap.

Have you considered the camo wraps that use coloured pieces you stick on and overlap? They are not silly money and you can peel off it looks rubbish. They also work better on complex surfaces.
 
Have a look at PlastiDip. Videos on YouTube of people painting cars etc. Seems pretty tough and you can peel it off if no longer wanted.

I've thought of trying it on my lid.

Hydrodipping is where you dip your item into water that has the film of coating floating on top? That seems laborious and tricky. My son was all into dipping his airsoft guns - we looked into it but we never went ahead with it.

And Plasti Dip is an aerosol spray-on rubberised paint?

Both interesting, but Plasti Dip seems easier? And it's a lot cheaper - 5 cans is €65... And it can be peeled off... And they have a dealer in Ireland... That has to be worth a try...
