Not really a SatNav question, so posting here.

Seen the very good thread on creating a 'can bus' lead which connects into the loom behind the headstock using that BMW connector.

The lead made in the guide is used for only SatNav units, my question is how much power can be drawn from this?

I was thinking of splitting the output, taking one feed to an autocom unit, second to a tank bag, which will be taken to a ciggy adapter (4 plug) to drive PDA, VOX Radio, Bluetooth GPS at times, possibly music player, mobile phone charger.

Can all that be driven from that single connector?

Try it - it's hard to say how much current you'll draw.

The beauty of the 1200 is that the circuit breaker will trip if you pull too much current - and recycling the ignition will reset it.

I'd give it a go - if it doesn't work, you'll have to put in another feed and wire it through a relay(or not?) - there's loads of info on how to do that on here and elsewhere

The general opinion is that the spur is limited to five amps, just like the aux. sockets.

Do as Slowdown suggests, you can't break it.

Let us know how you get on, please.

cheers guys, wanted to make sure i was not going to over-load the connection.

Main use will be to drive the PDA which will be TomTom & Music tunes (although i may get a cheapo second device for music), got a bluetooth GPS that lasts for ever, but will sometimes need charging, as will a phone/radio.

First need to get a tank bag to hold it all so off to NOG when it stops snowing!

I agree with the earlier comments about it probably being 5 amps max, and what you mention should not draw high currents, so you may be OK. I made up a lead for my Zumo GPS using a canbus plug from the BMW dealer and works fine.

You are aware that plug is only live when the ignition is ON, in case you were thinking of charging phones/GPS overnight while camping etc. Again let us know how you get on.

Yes aware of that, all devices will have battery power, so PDA can last without power then re-fueling for example. Trips i am doing will be to hotels / friends, so won't need to charge on the bike.

Thanks :thumb2
