Probably a simple question for someone who knows what they're doing - but I don't. :D

I have approx 60 "Favourite" sites listed on my work computer and have been given a laptop to connect to work from home. What I need to know is, is there a simple way to copy the favourites from my work computer and paste them onto the laptop? :nenau

For Internet Explorer, my favorites sit in a series of directories that start here:
C:\Documents and Settings\alan\Favorites

I suspect copying that directory and sub-directory structure to your laptop will get you what you want. The alan part (will be your username on the desktop) may change depending on what your user ID is on the laptop.

Firefox uses a different method, It's a single file called bookmarks.html located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\alan\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.b2w
(on my system)

Depending on how your system is setup, you may find these things in different places, but hopefully this will get you on the right track.

Even easier?

In IE, under the file menu is Import/Export

From Desktop pc use export favourites and save to a file which you put on a memory stick or email yourself

At laptop open IE and under the file menu, import, select location of file and job done.

Sign up for googlemail and you get the Google Bookmarks facility in your Google toolbar on whichever computer you happen to be ie your bookmarks are kept on the Google server

The Google bookmarks selection has an "import IE favourites" button so you can basically have all you favourites on any selected PC or laptop wherever you are in the world

If you are using Firefox (as you should be :D ) get the Foxmarks add-on and you can synchronise your bookmarks across all your PC's remotely :thumb

Thanks boys - you're all heroes. :clap :clap

I've exported them all to a disk and will try importing them to the laptop later. If you don't hear from me, assume its gone smoothly. :thumb

Au contraire mon ami, if we don't hear from you - it's all gone t1ts up :D

Right then - a follow on question. I now have all my favourites on the work laptop, but how do I arrange them in alphabetical order? :o

I've been into "My Computer" found the relevant drive, the relevant folder and arranged those alphabetically, but when I go back to the "Favourites" file in Internet Explorer, they are still listed in the order that they were added.

I've tried going into "Organise" but that just gives me the option of creating files and moving favourite links into the relavant files. :nenau

Left click to open favourites then right click in the grey area, then select 'sort by name'
