Can only start engine in Neutral (not with clutch pulled in, in gear) any ideas?

I'd try bypass wiring it then see if problem resurfaces then you know if it's worth spending on a new switch :)

So Yellow Peril

Tell me more.

I've replaced the side stand switch with a brand new one from Cannon BMW (same price as from the independent parts dealers BTW). I've not ridden it anywhere, but seems to be working okay on a static test in the garage.

However, even though it was okay a couple of days ago after I fiddled, it seems the not restarting in gear seems to have surfaced again. Had yet another fiddle with the clutch switch, and seems to be okay again. That to me would suggest an issue thereb(but wouldn't explain the cutouts - hence the me repalcing the side stand switch)

Now WHAT are the chances of both side stand, and clutch switch failing at exactly the same time? Highly improbable IMHO. Which is why, Mr Peril, I'd like to know about your experience - were the symptoms similar? and how much to repair?

If you (or anyone else) can tell - I can perhaps no where to look next..

Ta.

My dealer thought it was the side stand switch when mine wouldn't start in gear but in the end it was indeed the clutch lever switch which cured it, on another note my new ignition switch a couple of years ago has now started to play around again, turn key, nothing, turn it on an off a few times and it then comes on, fackin BMW electrics are shite.

Do you normally start the bike in gear with the sidestand down because if not then perhaps the clutch switch failed a while ago but you only noticed it when you tried to start it in gear with the sidestand down on the hard shoulder.

I normally start side stand up in gear (my drive slopes) and often in neutral side stand up. Very rarely if at all, in neutral side down.

I only went to start in gear, cos the engine stopped whilst filtering in the middle lane.

Okay. Well. I did get the clutch switch working okay, now it doesn't...so I'll have another shot at cleaning and adjusting that... grrr
